The 2019 Hyundai Tucson is one of the range-topping SUVs on offer from the Korean brand in the Indian market. The Tucson SUV carries forward Hyundai`s latest fluidic design language and comes packed with all the features and equipment.
In terms of design, the Hyundai Tucson comes with the brand`s signature cascading grille up front. On either side of the hexagonal grille are the first-in-class dual-barrel LED headlamps. The Tucson also comes with a sporty grille, with a horizontal bar. This houses the LED DRLs on either ends, while also featuring fog lamps above them as well.
The side profile of the Hyundai Tucson continues with the sporty theme of the car with sharp creases and lines, 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and contrasting black roof rails. The rear profile also offers sporty yet clean look with sleek looking LED tail lights, silver scuff plate on the rear bumper and dual-exhaust pipes.
Moving inside, the Hyundai Tucson comes with a well laid out dashboard. The Tucson gets a dual-tone cabin, well integrated infotainment screen along with silver accents on the centre console. The seats are wrapped in premium leather, offering good comfort along with a host of features features as well.
The Hyundai Tucson is offered with two engine options: one petrol and one diesel. This includes a Nu 2.0-litre four-cylinder VVT petrol producing 155bhp and 192Nm of torque. The diesel unit, on the other hand, comprises of a R2.0-litre four-cylinder engine churning out 185bhp and 400Nm of torque. Both engine come mated to six-speed manual or automatic gearbox choices.
Both engines offer a smooth and comfortable drive. The engines themselves are extremely refined and offer excellent amount of power at any point. The diesel has the little advantage thanks to the massive 400Nm of torque, which pulls the car forward quickly.
The ride itself is comfortable, with the suspension being set a bit on the softer side. Hyundai has really excelled with the NVH levels on the Tucson. There is little to no noise in the cabin under the 2.400rpm mark. Post that you can hear a bit of engine noise, which is not a bad thing.
The brakes and suspension work like a charm, stopping the heavy SUV quickly and easily while the suspension absorbs most of the road undulations without a sweat. However, there is a bit of noticeable body roll on the SUV, which can make the driver hesitant to push the car in the corners. The Hyundai Tucson further comes with different driving modes, such as Normal, Eco and Sport to further assist in drivability of the SUV under various conditions.
The Hyundai Tucson is a massive car and comes packed with features. It gets a fuel tank capacity of 62-litres and offers pretty impressive fuel efficiency figures for its size. According to Hyundai, the Tucson claims a ARAI-certified mileage of 13.03km/l and 12.95km/l for the petrol manual and AT, respectively. The diesel variants offer a claimed mileage of 18.42km/l for the manual and 16.48km/l for the automatic.
Hyundai is known to offer all their products with a host of features and equipment. The Hyundai Tucson is no expection, it comes with a range of best-in-class and first-in-class features, apart from the long list of equipments.
Some of the standard features on the Hyundai Tucson include LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lights, rear spoiler with high-mounted stop lamp, shark fin antenna, electronic panoramic sunroof, hands free smart power tailgate, heated ORVMs with electric fold and adjustability functions, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, steering-mounted audio controls, reclining function for the 2nd row of seats and cruise control; among a host of others.
In addition, the Hyundai Tucson also comes with a number of safety equipment. This include ABS with EBD, vehicle stability management, multiple airbags, electronic stability control, electronic shift lock control, brake assist, advanced traction cornering control and engine immobiliser, to name a few.
The Hyundai Tucson sits between the popular Creta and the range-topping Santa Fe in the brand`s lineup. The car offers an excellent drive, good performance and impressive mileage figures. However, the Tucson is priced slightly higher than what it offers, which does make us have second thoughts on the SUV.
The Hyundai Tucson doesn’t have any direct rivals the Indian market. However, in terms of size and build, it does compete against the likes of the Honda CR-V.
The Hyundai Tucson is available in a range of four different colour options: Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Stardust and Phantom Black.
The Hyundai Tucson is available in MT, AT GL, AT GL(O) and AT GLS.
Yes the diesel version of the top-spec AT GLS is available with a four-wheel drive option.
The Hyundai Tucson has a best-in-class boot capacity of 513-litres with all the seats folded up. The rear seats further offer a 60:40 fold option, which extends the boot space further.
The top-spec diesel-automatic variant of the Hyundai Tucson makes the most sense. It provides all the bells and whistles in terms of features and safety, while also offering excellent performance and mileage figures as well.
