Maruti Swift DZire Recall Due To Fault Fuel Cap Likely
Maruti Suzuki could issue a recall for the country's best selling compact sedan, Swift DZire due to a faulty fuel cap. If recalled, it would be the third time for the DZire model till date.
Some 1.5 lakh DZire models are said to be affected by a faulty fuel cap and Maruti has asked dealerships to temporarily block sales of this particular batch of models. This would make this the largest single model recall in Maruti Suzuki's history.
The faulty fuel caps do not fit properly which lead to loss of fuel through evaporation.
It is not clear how many of DZire models with the loose fuel caps are already on the road. Maruti is still said to be contemplating a recall, though it is clear the defect exists. While the affected models still in dealerships are sure to get new fuel caps it remains to be seen when Maruti will make a formal announcement about a recall of cars that are sold.
The last time the DZire was recalled was in October 2013 to have a steering column problem fixed, along with the Ertiga and Swift. In total only 1,492 were recalled. 13,157 DZire models, along with the Swift and Ritz were also recalled in April 2011 to have a faulty engine checked.
The largest vehicle recall ever issued by Maruti Suzuki, however, was in February 2010. A faulty fuel pump had resulted in the recall of 1 lakh A-Star hatchbacks.
