Maruti Suzuki Jimny & Fronx Clock More Than 14,000 Bookings – Waiting Period Shoots Up
Maruti Suzuki unveiled the much-awaited Jimny and Baleno-based Fronx SUVs at the Auto Expo 2023 and both SUVs garnered a lot of attention at the event.
That being said, Maruti Suzuki also opened bookings for both these SUVs and the Indo-Japanese automaker received more than 10,000 bookings for the Jimny SUV, whereas the Fronx SUV bagged 4,000+ bookings.
Due to the high demand for the Jimny SUV in India, Maruti Suzuki even tried to slow down bookings for the Jimny SUV by increasing the booking amount from Rs 11,000 to Rs 25,000. However, the increased booking amount does not seem to have reduced the booking rate of the Jimny as the SUV continues to receive more than 1,000 bookings per day on average.
Since the production of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV is around 1,000 units per month, it is safe to expect waiting periods for the SUV to be as high as 10 months. According to Mr Shashank Srivastava, the Senior Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the automaker has already received orders for more than 11,000 units of the Jimny SUV.
Speaking about the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, it is an off-road-focused SUV that sports a very rugged body-on-frame chassis and a rugged four-wheel-drive system with a low-range gearbox for extreme off-roading. Moreover, the Jimny SUV is powered by a tried-and-tested 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated K15B engine.
In the new Maruti Suzuki Jimny, this engine puts out a respectable 103bhp of peak power and 134.2Nm of peak torque. Apart from that, this powertrain in the Jimny SUV can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a sub-4m SUB based on the Baleno hatchback and it is worth mentioning that the designers have done a commendable job at hiding the hatchback roots of the Fronx SUV. However, unlike the Baleno hatchback, the Frox SUV comes with two engine options.
Diving into details, the base engine option is a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine with 88.5 bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque. Also, this engine can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT unit. On the other hand, the 1.0-litre, turbocharged engine puts out 98.6bhp of peak power and 147.6Nm of peak torque, and this engine option can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
