Volkswagen, Skoda Facility In Aurangabad Now Runs On 100 Per Cent Solar Energy

Earlier, Volkswagen Group had planned to use 100 per cent green energy at its Aurangabad facility by the year 2025.

Now, the German automobile giant has achieved its target of 100 per cent green energy at its Aurangabad facility three years ahead of its target timeline.

Diving into details, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) commissioned the installation of a 980kWp rooftop solar power plant at its manufacturing plant in Aurangabad back in 2018. This move has resulted in the solar power plant producing 40 per cent of the manufacturing plant's energy requirement.

This solar powerplant at the Volkswagen Group's manufacturing facility in Aurangabad was supplied by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL). Moreover, the Volkswagen Group's manufacturing facility is the first automotive manufacturing plant in Aurangabad to be certified as a Green Energy Plant by MSEDCL.

Thanks to this transition into green energy, the Volkswagen Group's manufacturing facility in Aurangabad is estimated to achieve a 48 per cent reduction in CO2 every year. Furthermore, SAVWIPL says that the company is aiming to become carbon-neutral by 2050 as part of its 'goTOzero' mission.

Speaking about SAVWIPL, the company manages five brands under the Volkswagen Group in India. This includes the likes of Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Furthermore, India recently became the third largest market for Skoda Auto following the success of the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan launched under the India 2.0 business strategy.

To commemorate this milestone achievement, Skoda Auto India celebrated its success with the global congregation in the picturesque backdrop of the Himalayas in Dehradun. Moreover, the 'Peak-to-Peak Drive' showcased the achievements of Skoda Auto India and its India-made products to many automotive experts from India and all corners of the world.

The celebration also commemorated the 5-Star safety ratings achieved by the Skoda Kushaq SUV under the newly introduced more stringent crash testing protocols. On top of that, Skoda Auto India also announced the introduction of the Skoda Kushaq Anniversary Edition SUV along with Model Year 2023 updates to both the Kushaq SUV and the Slavia sedan in India.
