German automaker Volkswagen recently launched its new Virtus sedan in India. The automaker has now completed 5,000 deliveries of the Virtus sedan in the country in just 2 months. While the numbers might be surprising to many, the German automaker started the deliveries of the Virtus sedan in July 2022.

With the launch of the Volkswagen Virtus sedan in India, the German automaker has replaced the ageing Volkswagen Vento mid-size sedan and also added a new model for the automaker's new 'India 2.0' strategy.

Speaking about the Volkswagen Virtus, the mid-size sedan is built on the same MQB-A0 IN platform as the Volkswagen Taigun, hence, it is a size larger than the Vento sedan it replaced. Moreover, the design of the Virtus sedan with its simple and sharp lines looks very clean and understated.

In addition to that, the new Volkswagen Virtus sedan is the biggest sedan in its segment with its exterior dimensions measuring at 4,561mm (length), 1,752mm (width), 1,507mm (height), and 2,651mm (wheelbase).

Thanks to the common MQB A0-IN platform, the new Volkswagen Virtus sedan shares many features and safety tech with other models using this platform such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and Skoda Slavia.

As a result, the Volkswagen Vitus sedan sports features such as a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, a fully-digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, cruise control, rear AC vents, auto headlamps, auto wipers and much more.

Like most German cars, the new Volkswagen Virtus sedan comes with top-tier safety features such as 6-airbags, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, ABS, EBD, reverse camera, rear parking sensors, Traction Control (TC) and much more.

Like other Volkswagen models using the MQB A0-IN platform, the Volkswagen Virtus also comes with two petrol engine options. The base engine option is a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with 113bhp of peak power and 178Nm of peak torque.

On the other hand, the larger 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine produces a class-leading 147.5bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque.

In terms of gearbox options, the Volkswagen Virtus sedan comes with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. However, unlike the Skoda Slavia which offers a manual transmission with the bigger 1.5-litre powertrain, the Volkswagen Virtus equipped with the 1.5 TSI engine comes exclusively with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

It is also worth mentioning that the automatic variant of the Volkswagen Virtus sedan equipped with the smaller 1.0 TSI engine sports a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

At present, the Volkswagen Virtus sedan is priced from Rs 11.21 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base Comfortline variant and goes all the way up to Rs 17.91 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-spec GT Plus variant.

In India, the Volkswagen Virtus sedan competes with other sedans in the segment such as the Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
