Toyota Registers ‘Hyryder’ Name For Its Upcoming Creta Rival
Toyota recently released the 'Hum Hai Hybrid' campaign in India in order to promote hybrid vehicles in the country. In addition to that, the 'Hum Hai Hybrid' campaign aims to lay a strong foundation for the Japanese automaker's upcoming hybrid SUV.
This new hybrid SUV from Toyota is codenamed Toyota D22 and the latest reports claim that this upcoming hybrid SUV will be named 'Hyryder'. Moreover, the hybrid SUV is jointly developed by both Toyota and Maruti Suzuki for the Indian market.
According to sources, the upcoming hybrid SUV is likely to be unveiled before the end of June 2022. We also expect the Toyota's version of the hybrid SUV to be launched slightly earlier than the Maruti Suzuki's version.
Moreover, the upcoming Toyota hybrid SUV is positioned in the market to rival other midsize SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and Volkswagen Taigun.
Speaking about the upcoming Toyota D22 SUV, the hybrid SUV is likely to feature the Toyota's 3-cylinder, 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This 1.5-litre engine is also likely to feature the more fuel-efficient Atkinson cycle.
This is the same powertrain that powers the Toyota Yaris Cross in the international markets. The above-mentioned 1.5-litre Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and the electric motor together produce 113.5bhp of peak power.
Diving into details of the engine, the internal combustion engine produces 120Nm of peak torque, whereas the electric motor produces slightly more torque at 141Nm.
In terms of features, the upcoming Toyota D22 hybrid SUV is likely to sport a long feature list which includes features such as a large touchscreen infotainment unit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, connected car tech, climate control, wireless charging, air purifier, sunroof and much more.
In addition to that, we also expect the hybrid SUV to feature 6 airbags as standard and come with other safety features such as ABS, EBD, traction control (TC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability program (ESP), rear parking sensors, rear view camera and much more.
Recently, Toyota also launched the 2022 iteration of the Toyota Camry hybrid sedan in India and comes equipped with top-shelf safety features such as 9 airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), ABS, EBD, TC, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Park Assist with Back Guide Monitor, VSC, Hill-Start Assist and many more.
Also, the new Toyota Camry Hybrid sedan is powered by a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine with 175.5bhp. This engine is further boosted by a 160kW electric motor and produces a total of 215bhp of peak power.
Thoughts About The Toyota 'Hyryder'
Thanks to rising fuel prices and the growing trend for SUVs, we expect Toyota's upcoming hybrid SUV to quickly gain traction in the Indian market. However, the Indian market is also very sensitive to pricing and Toyota has to price the upcoming Hybrid SUV aggressively.
