Toyota Innova Hycross Vs Mahindra XUV700 – Powertrain, Features & More
Toyota is gearing up to launch the Innova Hycross, and here's how the latest iteration of the MPV stacks up to the Mahindra XUV700.
In this comparison, we will compare both the Mahindra XUV700 and Toyota Innova Hycross in terms of their engine, gearbox, size, features, and safety systems on offer.
Engine
Starting with the older car, the Mahindra XUV700 SUV comes with 3 engine options. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine with 197bhp of peak power and 380Nm of peak torque. While both the diesel engines displace 2.2-litre turbocharged units, the more powerful version produces 182bhp of peak power and 450Nm of torque, whereas the base diesel engine pushes out 153bhp of peak power and 360Nm of peak torque.
The Toyota Innova Hycross on the other hand comes with two engine options. The base 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine produces 171.6bhp of peak power and 205Nm of peak torque, whereas the Strong Hybrid powertrain consists of a 2.0-litre, Atkinson cycle, 4-cylinder petrol engine and a powerful electric motor. This system in combined form puts out more than 183bhp of peak power.
Gearbox
Furthermore, gearbox options in the Mahindra XUV700 include both 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox that can be specified with both petrol and diesel powertrains. However, it is worth mentioning that the base diesel engine can only be specified with 6-speed manual transmission.
Toyota does not offer much choice when it comes to gearboxes. The petrol-only variant of the Innova Hycross comes equipped with a CVT gearbox, whereas the Strong Hybrid version of the model comes with an e-CVT gearbox. The latter even allows the Innova Hycross to seamlessly shift into pure EV mode as well.
Size
In terms of size, the Toyota Innova Hycross is almost a size larger than the Mahindra XUV700 as the Japanese MPV is 95mm longer, 40mm taller and also comes with a 109mm longer wheelbase as well. However, the Toyota Innova Hycross is 44mm narrower than the Mahindra XUV700 SUV. Thanks to these larger overall parameters, the Innova Hycross also comes with a 300-litre boot, which is 240 litres more than what you get from the Mahindra XUV700.
Features
In terms of features, both the Mahindra XUV700 and the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross comes with features such as large 10+inch infotainment units with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, ventilated front seats, climate control, and much more. However, the Innova Hycross comes with a better 2nd row with Ottoman-style seats.
Safety Systems
Both the Mahindra XUV700 and Toyota Innova Hycross come with plenty of safety systems such as multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control (TC), ESP, ISOFIX anchoring points, 360-degree surround-view camera, parking sensors, and many more. On top of that, both models comes with ADAS as well.

Hycross
There is no doubt that Mahindra XUV700 is an impressive SUV, and the long waiting periods are a testament to the success of the SUV in the Indian automobile market. However, the Toyota Innova Hycross seems to be a better overall package with a more future-proof powertrain, better 2nd-row seating, and more usable luggage space.
