Toyota Hilux Official Teaser Out Now: Launch On Jan 20
Toyota is gearing up for the launch of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck in India on January 20. The Japanese automaker has now released a 10-second teaser video for the same.
That being said, the upcoming Toyota Hilux has already made its debut on the official Indian website of the company and it will be the second car for the year 2022 after the successful launch of the facelifted version of the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
According to sources, Toyota will launch the Hiux on January 20, 2022. Meanwhile, many automotive enthusiasts across the country have been eagerly waiting for the launch of this pickup truck in India. Bookings for the pickup truck has also been opened across the country for Rs 1 lakh.
Speaking about the pickup truck, the Toyota Hilux is built on the same IMV-2 platform that underpins the Toyota Fortuner SUV and the Toyota Innova Crysta MPV in India.
This means the upcoming Toyota Hilux pickup truck could share many mechanical components from both these vehicles. Moreover, thanks to a large extent of parts sharing, prices of mechanical components are likely to remain affordable.
According to sources, Toyota Hilux will be powered by the same 201bhp 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel unit from the Toyota Fortuner and this engine will produce a mammoth 500Nm of torque when paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Apart from that, the Toyota Hilux will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the torque will be limited to just 420Nm in the variant equipped with the manual transmission.
Toyota Hilux will also come with a robust and tried-and-tested 4WD drivetrain and electronic differential locks for improved off-road ability by improving the traction on loose surfaces.
Thanks to its loading bay, Toyota Hilux's body is slightly longer than both the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Toyota Fortuner, and to support that longer body, the Toyota Hilux will sport a slightly longer wheelbase at 3,085mm, which is 335mm longer than the Toyota Innova Crysta's and 340mm longer than the Toyota Fortuner's wheelbase.
From the teaser video, the upcoming Toyota Hilux looks very bold and brawny with its large hexagonal front grille and swept-back headlamps with stylish LED DRLs. On the sides, the large flared wheel arches and chunky black claddings further accentuate the toughness of the lifestyle pickup truck.
We expect the Toyota Hilux to sport a similar interior as the Toyota Fortuner SUV with features such as an 8.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, steering mounted controls, and many more.
According to Toyota, there will be five colour options for the Toyota Hilux in India - red, pearl white, super white, silver and grey. Moreover, Toyota will also offer 3 year/1,00,000 kms warranty as standard.
When Toyota launches the Hilux in India, it will directly compete with the Isuzu V-Cross in the country and we expect Toyota to price the Hilux upward of Rs 25 lakh in India.
Thoughts About Toyota Hilux In India
Toyota Hilux is one of the most awaited vehicles in the country and the pickup truck has carved a reputation for being one of the most reliable vehicles on the planet. Apart from that, the launch of Hilux in India will trigger more people to consider owning a lifestyle pickup truck.
