Toyota Hilux India Launch Bookings Open: 2.8-Litre Engine, 4x4, Double Cab & More
Toyota has opened pre-bookings for the Toyota Hilux lifestyle pick-up in India. Bookings for the pick-up SUV is being accepted across the country for Rs 1 lakh at dealerships or Rs 50,000 via the brand's online platform.
Toyota will launch and make the price announcement of the Hilux in March 2022 with deliveries said to begin from April. Toyota Hilux is assembled at Toyota's Bengaluru manufacturing plant with 30 per cent localisation. As a result, we expect prices for the Toyota Hilux to range between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh, ex-showroom.
Design
As we all know, looks are a crucial deciding factor while buying a lifestyle pickup SUV and the designers at Toyota have done a tremendous job at this as the new Toyota Hilux looks very bold and brawny with its large hexagonal front grille and swept-back headlamps with stylish LED DRLs.
The front fascia also carries a very muscular looking front bumper along with a prominent bash plate, which adds a very rugged and indestructible feel to the vehicle.
This rugged feel is very well carried to the sides of the new Toyota Hilux with its large flared wheel arches and chunky black claddings.
To further accentuate the toughness of the lifestyle pickup SUV, the Toyota Hilux comes with a pair of neatly integrated side footsteps and 18-inch alloy wheels that fill the large wheel arches.
However, it is the rear of the Toyota Hilux that looks a bit 'Vanilla' compared to the rest of the exterior, but Toyota has done their homework and added a heavy dose of chrome on the rear side of the vehicle to keep the Indian audience happy.
Engine & Transmission
The Toyota Hilux is powered by the same and very familiar 201bhp 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine from the Toyota Fortuner and this engine produces a mammoth 500Nm of torque when paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Apart from that, the Toyota Hilux could be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the torque in the variant equipped with the manual transmission is limited to just 420Nm to protect the transmission.
Since the Toyota Hilux is based on the Toyota Fortuner, the Toyota Hilux also comes with the same tried-and-tested and highly robust 4WD drivetrain. This 4WD system also comes with electronic differential locks and a limited-slip differential for improved off-road ability by improving the traction on loose surfaces.
The Toyota Hilux also features drive modes and comes with a 700mm water wading capacity.
Features & Space
On the inside, the Toyota Hilux sports a similar interior as the Toyota Fortuner with features such as an 8.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, steering mounted controls, and many more.
Despite the new Toyota Hilux being built on the same IMV-2 platform that underpins the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Toyota Fortuner, the new Toyota Hilux has a slightly longer wheelbase than both the Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Innova Crysta due to its loading bay area.
As the Toyota Hilux's body is longer than both the Innova Crysta and Fortuner, it also comes with a slightly longer wheelbase at 3,085mm, which is 335 mm longer than the Toyota Innova Crysta's and 340mm longer than the Toyota Fortuner's wheelbase.
Competition
The Toyota Hilux lifestyle pickup SUV directly competes with the Isuzu V-Cross and Isuzu Highlander lifestyle pickup SUVs in India.
However, with the launch of the Toyota Hilux in India, it is safe to say that the lifestyle pickup truck segment in the country will soon become a tight space and will be buzzing with new entrants.
Thoughts About The Toyota Hilux Pick-Up SUV
Toyota Hilux was first introduced in 1968 and sold in more than 180 countries. Now, after 8 generations of cementing its reputation as 'Invincible', Toyota will soon launch the Hilux in India. Finally, the Isuzu V-Cross gets a worthy competition.
