Toyota Hilux Debuts On Official Website: Launch On Jan 20
Toyota is now gearing up for the launch of their second car for the year 2022 after the successful launch of the facelifted version of the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
That being said, the upcoming Toyota Hilux has already made its debut on the official website and the pickup truck has been one of the most awaited vehicles in India.
Moreover, Toyota will launch the Hilux on January 20 and the bookings for the pickup truck has also been opened across the country for Rs 1 lakh.
Ever since the launch of the Toyota Fortuner in India, automotive enthusiasts in the country have been expecting Toyota to launch the Hilux pickup truck. The pickup truck was also recently spotted without any camouflage in the country during what appears to be the TVC shoot of the pickup truck.
The Toyota Hilux is built on the same IMV-2 platform that underpins the Toyota Fortuner SUV and Toyota Innova Crysta MPV in India. This means the upcoming Toyota Hilux pickup truck could share many parts from both these vehicles.
According to sources, Toyota Hilux to be powered by the more potent 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel unit from the Toyota Fortuner and this engine produces 201bhp and a mammoth 500Nm of torque.
Apart from that, the Toyota Hilux will be offered with a choice of 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, the torque will be limited to just 420Nm in the variant equipped with the manual transmission.
Toyota Hilux will also come with 4WD drivetrain and electronic differential locks for improved off-road ability.
Thanks to its loading bay, Toyota Hilux's body is slightly longer than both the Innova Crysta and Fortuner, and to support that longer body, it will also sport a slightly longer wheelbase at 3,085mm, which is 335 mm longer than the Toyota Innova Crysta's and 340mm longer than the Toyota Fortuner's wheelbase.
Since the Toyota Hilux is a lifestyle pickup truck, looks are an important deciding factor and the upcoming Toyota Hilux does not disappoint either.
The upcoming Toyota Hilux looks very bold and brawny with its large hexagonal front grille and swept-back headlamps with stylish LED DRLs. Apart from that, the front also carries a very muscular looking front bumper along with a prominent bash plate which accentuates the ruggedness of the vehicle.
On the sides, the large flared wheel arches and chunky black claddings further accentuate the toughness of the lifestyle pickup truck. The sides also sport integrated side footsteps and 18-inch alloy wheels that neatly fill the large wheel arches.
However, it is the rear that looks comparatively dull compared to the rest of the exterior, but Toyota has added a heavy dose of chrome on the rear side of the vehicle to keep Indian customers happy.
On the inside, we expect the Toyota Hilux to sport a similar interior as the Toyota Fortuner SUV with features such as an 8.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, steering mounted controls, and many more.
According to Toyota, there will be five colour options - red, pearl white, super white, silver and grey. Toyota will also offer 3 year/1,00,000 kms warranty as standard.
When Toyota launches the Hilux in India, it will directly compete with the Isuzu V-Cross and Isuzu Highlander and we expect Toyota to price the Hilux around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 32 lakh in India.
Thoughts About Toyota Hilux
Toyota Hilux is one of the most awaited vehicles in the country and the pickup truck has carved a reputation for being one of the most reliable vehicles on the planet. That being said, it is now time to see how this pickup truck copes with Indian conditions.
