Top 5 Upcoming CNG Cars In India – Brezza, Carens, & More
Top car manufacturers have started focusing on CNG cars in India as demand for these cars has increased across segments.
That being said, here are the top 5 upcoming CNG cars in India that are worth waiting for as they offer the best value for your buck.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG
We expect Toyota to very soon launch the CNG version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV in India as the company has already started accepting bookings for the CNG SUV in the country. In fact, the Japanese automaker has already revealed the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder E-CNG SUV in India.
According to Toyota, the upcoming Urban Cruiser Hyryder E-CNG SUV will be available in two variants - S, and G. Apart from that, the Japanese automaker even claims that the upcoming CNG version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV can return a fuel efficiency figure of 26.10km/kg of CNG fuel from its 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated powertrain sourced from Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG
When Maruti Suzuki launched the Grand Vitara, the SUV did what the S-Cross could never manage to do - Sales in big numbers. That being said, in a bid to attract more customers and further increase the overall sales figures, the Indo-Japanese automaker is gearing up to launch the CNG version of the Grand Vitara SUV in India.
In fact, both the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder are essentially identical vehicles and as Toyota has already revealed the CNG version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV in India and started collecting bookings for the SUV, we can expect Maruti Suzuki to soon launch the CNG version of the Grand Vitara SUV.
That being said, the CNG-compatible powertrain in the Grand Vitara is expected to produce 87bhp of peak power and 121.5Nm of peak torque while running on CNG, and return a fuel efficiency figure of 26.10km/kg of CNG from its 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated powertrain. It is also expected to come exclusively mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG
Given the fact that Maruti Suzuki is betting big on CNG vehicles and en route to rapidly expand its CNG lineup of cars in India, it is safe to expect that the Indo-Japanese automaker will soon launch the CNG version of the Brezza SUV in India to further increase its market share in the country.
In fact, a few leaked documents indicate that the Indo-Japanese automaker is currently working on an automatic variant of the CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza SUV. As such, we expect, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG to be the first CNG automatic vehicle in India.
Moreover, the CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is likely to use the usage the 1.5-litre K15C naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers most of the Indo-Japanese automaker's vehicles in India. This engine produces 103bhp of peak power and 136.8Nm of torque in standard form. However, with the CNG fuel, we expect this engine to produce 87bhp of peak power and 121.5Nm of peak torque.
Tata Punch CNG
When Tata launched the Punch in India, the SUV became an instant hit among the Indian audience and it is currently the second-best consistently selling SUV in the company's product portfolio. Moreover, despite its compact footprint, the SUV has received a 5-star safety rating for adult protection by Global-NCAP.
At present, the Tata Punch SUV is powered by an uprated version of the 1.2L Revotron petrol engine. This engine produces 84.48bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque. Moreover, this engine comes with a choice of either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Moreover, we expect the CNG version of the Tata Punch to use the same powertrain and produce somewhere around 73bhp and 95Nm of torque with the CNG fuel. However, the SUV is likely to be equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission as the sole gearbox option available with the CNG version.
Kia Carens CNG
The Kia Carens is currently one of the most feature-rich and best-selling MPVs in the country. However, Kia is now gearing up to launch the CNG iteration of the Carens MPV to further improve sales figures and increase market share in the lucrative Indian automobile market.
Moreover, a few spied images of the upcoming Kia Carens CNG MPV reveal that the model will be powered by the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine - Making it the first turbocharged CNG vehicle in India if launched. However, we are not sure if this powertrain will be equipped with a 7-speed DCT gearbox or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
