Car sales in India rose by 25.49 per cent in June 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. A total of 3,20,846 cars found new homes in June 2022.
Meanwhile Month-over-Month sales also rose by 9 per cent compared to May 2022.
As stated earlier, the Indian car market grew by 25.49 per cent Y-o-Y to 3,20,846 units in June. The Indian car market grew by 65,173 units compared to June 2022 when 2,55,673 cars were sold in the country.
M-o-M metrics were also up by 9 per cent in June compared to the month of May 2022. Car sales increased by 26,504 units in June 2022 compared to the prior month when 2,94,342 cars reached new homes in India.Let's take a look at the 10 bestselling car brands from June 2022 and see how they performed...
1) Maruti Suzuki - 1,22,685 Units
Maruti Suzuki's sales numbers dipped slightly in June 2022 in terms of both Y-o-Y and M-o-M metrics. Y-o-Y sales for India's largest carmaker were down by 1.28 per cent or 1,595 units compared to June 2021 when it sold 1,24,280 cars in the domestic market. M-o-M numbers were also down by 1.44 per cent or 1,789 units compared to May 2022's 1,24,474 units sold.
2) Hyundai - 49,001 Units
Hyundai enjoyed a good month of sales in June 2022 with its Y-o-Y numbers rising by 21 per cent or 8,505 units compared to the same period last year. In June 2021, Hyundai sold 40,496 cars in the Indian market.
M-o-M metrics for the South Korean marque were also in the black rising by 15.86 per cent or 6,708 units compared to May 2022's 42,293 units. Hyundai's uptake in sales helped it regain the 2nd spot in the sales charts after losing out to Tata Motors last month.
3) Tata Motors - 45,197 Units
Despite losing 2nd place to Hyundai, Tata Motors enjoyed its best-ever monthly sales numbers to date in June 2022. Y-o-Y numbers were up 87.46 per cent or 21,087 units compared to June 2021 when it sold just 24,110 units. M-o-M numbers were also up by 4.28 per cent or 1,856 units as Tata continued its record-breaking sales pace.
4) Mahindra - 26,880 Units
Mahindra marked June 2022 with the launch of the new Scorpio-N. Y-o-Y numbers were in the black for the Indian SUV specialist rising by 58.93 per cent or 9,967 units in June 2022 compared to the corresponding period in 2021 when it sold just 16,913 units. However, M-o-M numbers dropped ever so slightly by 0.09 per cent or 24 units compared to May 2022's 26,904 units.
5) Kia - 24,024 Units
June marked Kia's best month in terms of sales numbers for the Indian market. Y-o-Y numbers were up by 60 per cent or 9,009 units compared to June 2021 when it sold 15,015 cars in India. M-o-M numbers also rose by 28.35 per cent or 5,306 units compared to May 2022.

Toyota occupied the 6th spot for June with the Japanese carmaker selling 16,512 cars in the sixth month of 2022. Y-o-Y sales numbers were up by 87.68 per cent or 7,714 units compared to June 2021's 8,798 units. M-o-M metrics were also up by 6,296 units or 61.63 per cent) compared to May's 10,216 units.
French carmaker Renault occupied the 7th spot selling 9,317 cars in June 2022. Y-o-Y numbers were up 52.74 per cent or 3,217 units compared to June 2021's 6,100 units. M-o-M numbers also rose, going up by 4,307 units or 85.97 per cent compared to May 2022's 5,010 units.
Honda occupied the 8th spot selling 7,834 units in June 2022. Y-o-Y metrics were up by 64.34 per cent or 3,067 units compared to June 2021 when it sold 4,767 cars in India. The Japanese marque's M-o-M metrics were down by 4.32 per cent or 354 units compared to May 2022 when it sold 8,188 units.
Czech carmaker Skoda enjoyed a stellar month of sales in June 2022 selling 6,023 cars in the Indian market. Skoda's Y-o-Y numbers were up by an astounding 720.57 per cent (the highest in terms of percentage points for any carmaker in June) or 5,289 units compared to June 2021's minuscule 734 units. M-o-M metrics for the Czech brand were also in the black, rising by 30.82 per cent or 1,419 units from May's 4,604 units.
Rounding off the top 10 was Chinese-owned British marque MG Motor which sold 4,503 cars in the India market last month. Y-o-Y sales were up by 26.56 per cent or 945 units compared to June 2021's 3,558 units. M-o-M sales numbers were up by 12.35 per cent (1,419 units) compared to May's 4,008 units.

The Indian car market continues to grow steadily despite supply chain issues and the chip shortage. Hopefully, things will clear up quickly so brands can start cutting down the massive waiting periods that customers currently have to endure.
