Top 10 Best-Selling Car Brands In India (July 2022) - Maruti Continues To Dominate
Car sales in India rose by 17.10 per cent in July 2022 compared to the same period last year while Month-over-Month sales also rose by 6.38 per cent compared to June 2022.
Car sales in India rose by 17.10 per cent in July 2022 compared to the same period last year while Month-over-Month sales also rose by 6.38 per cent compared to June 2022.
A total of 3,41,302 passenger vehicles were sold in India last month, rising by 49,838 units (17.10 per cent) Y-o-Y compared to July 2021, when 2,91,464 vehicles found homes.
M-o-M numbers for July were also in the black, rising by 20,456 units (6.38 per cent) compared to the 3,20,846 cars and SUVs that found homes in June 2022.

1) Maruti Suzuki - 1,42,850 Units
Maruti continued to dominate the Indian car market outselling the next three carmakers on this list. Maruti's sales grew by 6.82 per cent (9,118 units) Y-o-Y compared to July 2021's 1,33,732 units. M-o-M sales were up by 16.44 per cent (20,165 units) compared to June's 1,22,685 units.
2) Hyundai - 50,500 Units
Hyundai continued to keep Tata Motors at bay as it claimed the second spot on this list for the second month in a row with the South Korean carmaker shipping out 50,500 units in July. Y-o-Y sales were up by 2,458 units (5.12 per cent) compared to the same period last year when 48,042 units found homes. M-o-M sales were up by 3.06 per cent (or 1,499 units) compared to June 2022's 49,001 units.
3) Tata Motors - 47,505 Units
July saw Tata Motors hit a new record for domestic car sales with 47,505 units finding new homes last month. Tata's Y-o-Y sales numbers grew by 57.38 per cent (17,320 units) compared to July 2021 when it sold 30,185 cars. M-o-M metrics were also in the black rising by 5.11 per cent (2,308 units) compared to June 2022's 45,197 units.
4) Mahindra - 28,053 Units
Mahindra sold a total of 28,053 cars in July 2022 which was a gain of 33.29 per cent (7,000 units) compared to the same period last year when it sold only 21,046 units. M-o-M sales numbers rose by 4.36 per cent (1,173 units) compared to last month, when Mahindra sold a total of 26,880 units.
5) Kia - 22,022 Units
Kia enjoyed another month of good sales in July 2022 selling 22,022 utility vehicles in the country. Y-o-Y numbers were up by 46.66 per cent (7,006 units) compared to July 2021's 15,016 units. M-o-M numbers though were in the Red, dropping by 8.33 per cent (2,002 units).
6) Toyota - 9,693 Units
Japanese carmaker Toyota sold a total 9,693 cars in the month of July '22. Y-o-Y sales were up by 6,558 units (50.27 per vent) compared to the same period last year when 13,105 units were sold. M-o-M metrics were also up by 19.26 per cent (3,181 units) compared to the previous month's 16,512 units.
7) Renault - 7,128 Units
French carmaker Renault did not have an enjoyable July as both Y-o-Y and M-o-M metrics ended up in the red. Y-o-Y metrics were down by 27.17 per cent (2,659 units) compared to July 2021's 9,787 units. M-o-M metrics were down by 2,189 units or 23.49 per cent compared to June's 9,317 units.
8) Honda - 6,784 Units
Honda claimed the 8th spot on this list selling 6,784 cars in July 2022. Honda's Y-o-Y numbers were up by 12.04 per cent (729 units) compared to the 6,055 units sold in the same period last year. M-o-M metrics, on the other hand, were down by 13.40 per cent (1,050 units) compared to June 2022, when 7,834 Honda cars were sold.
9) Skoda - 4,447 Units
Czech carmaker Skoda sold 4,447 cars in the month of July. This was a 44.38 per cent (1,367 units) increase in sales compared to the same period in 2021, when 3,080 Skoda cars found new homes. However, Mo-o-M metrics were in the red, dropping by 26.17 per cent (1,576 units) compared to June's 6,023 units.
10) MG- 4,013 Units
Chinese-owned British carmaker MG shipped out 4,013 vehicles to customers last month. MG's Y-o-Y metrics were down by 5.02 per cent (212 units) compared to July 2022's 4,225 units. M-o-M metrics were also in the red, dropping by 10.88 per cent (490 units) compared to June 2022's 4,503 units.
Thoughts On July's Car Sales
Car sales in July once again rose with every carmaker except for Renault, MG and Nissan growing compared to July 2021. M-o-M metrics continue to steadily rise which does show that the Indian car market is slowly but surely getting back to normal.
