This Volkswagen Dealership Creates a New Record In India
A Volkswagen dealership in Kerala has created a new record in India by delivering 150 units of the newly launched Virtus sedan on the same day. The record 150 unit delivery was recognised by the India Book of Records, whose officials were also present on the same day to verify the delivery of all vehicles.
This type of record is a first for a Volkswagen dealership in India and it could be seen as a testament to the traction gained by the newly launched Virtus sedan in the country.
Speaking about the new Volkswagen Virtus, the newly launched German sedan replaced the Volkswagen Vento sedan in India and competes against other sedans in its segment such as the Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Hyundai Verna.
Starting from the exterior design, the newly launched Volkswagen Virtus sedan looks very Volkswagen-like with simple and sharp lines. This design language gives the sedan very understated looks that we expect to age well over time.
On the inside, the Volkswagen Virtus has a strong resemblance to the Volkswagen Taigun SUV that was launched last year. As a result, the interior looks very premium with its layered dashboard design and the presence of a large touchscreen infotainment system.
Also, the new Volkswagen Virtus sedan is available in two main variations - Dynamic Line and Performance Line. The Dynamic Line comes with the base 1.0 TSI engine, whereas the Performance Line comes with a more powerful 1.5 TSI engine.
The base 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces 113bhp of peak power and 178Nm of peak torque. This engine can also be specified either with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The next engine option is a much more powerful 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, TSI petrol engine with 150bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque. Moreover, the automatic transmission mated to this engine is a more sophisticated 7-speed DSG unit.
The 1.5-litre TSI engine is also a bit more sophisticated than the 1.0-litre TSI unit as it comes with 'Active Cylinder Technology' that deactivates two of its four cylinders for better fuel economy.
In terms of dimension, the Volkswagen Virtus sedan is 4,561mm long, 1,752mm wide, 1,507mm tall, and sports a wheelbase of 2,651mm. Moreover, thanks to its large dimension, the boot space of the Volkswagen Virtus is one of the largest in its segment at 521 litres.
In terms of features, the new Volkswagen Virtus mimics the feature list of other Volkswagen Group vehicles such as Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Slavia and Skoda Kushaq.
The feature list in the new Virtus sedan consists of a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control system, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, rear AC vents, 8-speakers, cooled glove box, 4-USB ports, an electric sunroof, and many more.
The Volkswagen Virtus is priced at Rs 11.21 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base variant.

The Volkswagen Virtus replaces the ageing Volkswagen Vento in India. That being said, the launch of Virtus is on-track to boost the sales of Volkswagen in India.
