Tata Tiago & Tigor CNG Launched In India At Rs 6.09 Lakh: Variants, Specs & More Details
Tata Motors has officially launched the CNG models of the Tiago and the Tigor in India. Prices for the CNG version of the Tiago and the Tigor starts at Rs 6.09 lakh and Rs 7.69 lakh, respectively. All prices are (ex-showroom, India).
At present, the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago is available in 4 trim levels - XE, XM, XT, and XT+. Whereas the CNG variants of the Tata Tigor is available in 2 trim levels - XZ, and XZ+.
The newly launched CNG versions of the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor are also some of the safest cars in India as the conventional variants of these cars have scored a respectable 4-star safety rating for adult protection by Global-NCAP.
Apart from that, the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and Tigor come with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors as standard.
Tata Motors has high expectations for the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor in India as the demand for CNG cars are on the rise.
With the launch of the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and the Tata Tigor, the running costs of these cars will become even more affordable than ever before.
Moreover, with the ever-tightening emission regulations in metro cities, opting for the CNG variant of these cars makes even more sense as CNG cars produce far fewer pollutants and are highly unlikely to be banned anytime soon.
Design-wise, the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and the Tata Tigor look identical to their petrol-powered counterparts. However, the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor feature an 'i CNG' badging to distinguish themselves from the standard variants.
Both the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor are powered by the same tried-and-tested 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine. However, few changes will be made to this powertrain to run on CNG.
In standard guise, this engine produces a healthy 84.82bhp and 113Nm of torque. However, with the CNG fuel, this engine produces slightly lower power and torque output at 72bhp and 95Nm of torque.
At present, the petrol-powered versions of the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor come with a choice of 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes. However, the CNG versions of these cars come with the 5-speed manual transmission as standard.
One of the highlighting features of the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and Tigor is their ability to start in CNG mode.
Apart from that, Tata Motors has also re-tuned the suspension of CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor to cope with the added weight (100Kg) of the factory-fitted CNG kit.
According to Tata Motors, the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor will return more mileage than other CNG cars and come with a 60-litre (water equivalent) CNG tank which is good for 300km of range.
While the CNG variant of the Tata Tigor will directly compete against the likes of Hyundai Aura, which to this point have enjoyed the advantage of having no competition. Whereas the CNG variant of the Tata Tiago has to compete directly with a few other CNG powered hatchbacks such as the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Hyundai Santro.
Apart from that, we also expect Tata Motors to soon introduce the CNG powered variants of the Tata Punch SUV and Tata Altroz premium hatchback as these cars from Tata Motors also use the same 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine from the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor.
Thoughts About CNG Variants of Tata Tiago & Tata Tigor
Since a total of more than 1.36 lakh CNG cars have been sold in India from April 2021 to November 2021 and the fact that Tata Motors recently overtook Hyundai to become the second-largest seller of passenger vehicles in India, the launch of CNG variants of Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor could further boost its overall sales and keep the same momentum.
