Tata Nexon EV Max Vs Tata Nexon EV - What's Changed?
Tata Motors recently launched the Nexon EV Max in India. Let's compare the new Nexon EV Max with the OG Nexon EV to find out what's changed.
Tata Motors recently launched the new Nexon EV Max in India. Let's compare the new Tata Nexon EV Max with the OG Nexon EV to find out what's changed.
Nexon EV Max Vs Nexon EV - Motor & Performance
Both the Nexon EV Max and Nexon EV from Tatat Motors are powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous motor.
In the original Nexon EV, this motor churns out 127bhp and 245Nm of peak torque allowing the electric SUV to sprint from 0-100km/h in 9.3 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 120km/h.
In the new Tata Nexon EV Max, the power and torque figures have been raised by 14bhp and 5Nm respectively and the new kid on the block produces 141bhp and 250Nm of torque. This increased output is enough to propel the Nexon EV Max from 0-100km/h in under 9 seconds and onwards to an electronically limited top speed of 140km/h.
Nexon EV Max Vs Nexon EV - Battery & Range
When it was launched in 2020, the Nexon EV was offered with a 30.2kWh battery pack that delivered an ARAI certified range of 312 kilometres.
For the Nexon EV Max, Tata has upgraded the battery pack to a 40.5kWh unit. This increase of 10.3kWh has resulted in more range. The Tata Nexon EV Max has an ARAI certified range of 437 kilometres on a single charge which is 125 kilometres more than that of the OG Tata Nexon EV.
However, the increased size of the battery pack means that the Nexon EV Max is 100 kilogrammes heavier than its regular Nexon EV sibling. The increased battery capacity has also resulted in the ground clearance coming down by 10mm in the new Nexon EV Max to 195mm.
Nexon EV Max Vs Nexon EV - Charging Speeds
The OG Nexon EV featured a 30.2kWh battery pack which supported 3.3kW AC charging and fast DC charging. With the regular 3.3kW home charger, the Nexon EV takes about 10 hours to top up its 30.2kWh battery pack. When connected to a fast DC charger, the Nexon EV takes 1 hour to recharge its battery pack from 10-80 per cent.
This though has changed for the new Nexon EV Max. Due to the introduction of the new 40.5kWh battery pack, the Nexon EV Max takes 15-16 hours to go from 0-100 per cent when connected to the standard 3.3kW wall box.
To ensure faster charging times at home, Tata Motors has introduced a faster 7.2kW home charging option (which adds an extra Rs 50,000 to the ex-showroom price) which charges the Nexon EV Max in 6 to 7 hours. The Tata Nexon EV Max charges from 10-80 per cent in 56 minutes when connected to a fast DC charger.
Nexon EV Max Vs Nexon EV - Regen
The OG Nexon EV features regenerative braking that helps charge the battery pack on the go but you can't adjust it. The new Nexon EV Max though features 4 regen modes. In mode 0, the regen is switched off while mode 3 keeps it at full blast. Modes 1 and 2 feature different levels of regen.
Nexon EV Max Vs Nexon EV - Features
The Tata Nexon EV came packed with a lot of features but the Nexon EV Max turns that up to 11. The Nexon EV Max comes packed with features like cooled front seats and glovebox, a jewelled gear knob with a display, an air purifier, a wireless charger for phones, cruise control, smartwatch integration, an electronic parking brake with auto hill hold, and hill descent control.
Nexon EV Max Vs Nexon EV - Prices
The Nexon EV Max is offered in only two trim options - XZ+ and XZ+ Lux - both of which can be fitted with the optional 7.2kW charger for an extra 50 grand. Both trim levels of the Nexon EV in standard form are Rs 1.5 lakh more expensive than their counterparts in the Nexon EV lineup at Rs 17.74 lakh and Rs 18.74 lakh respectively.
Thoughts On The Nexon EV Max vs The OG Nexon EV
The Nexon EV Max takes everything Tata did with the OG Nexon EV to a whole new level and is the version of the electric SUV you would want to buy. We recently tested the Nexon EV Max on the road and you can read more about it here. So, if you have the cash to splash, go for the Nexon EV Max, though the original Nexon EV is no slouch either.
