Skoda Slavia Production Started: Deliveries To Commence From March 2022
Skoda Auto India has started the production of its upcoming sedan, the Skoda Slavia in the country and the upcoming sedan is set to replace the Skoda Rapid in India. According to Skoda, the production of Skoda Slavia takes place at Skoda's manufacturing facility at Chakan, Pune.
The information regarding Skoda Slavia's production was announced via a tweet from the company's official Twitter handle. The tweet read "The much-awaited SKODA SLAVIA starts its production at the cutting-edge SKODA AUTO Volkswagen India manufacturing facility at Chakan, Maharashtra."
The Skoda Slavia is the brand's second new model for India and according to sources, the brand is looking forward to launch the Skoda Slavia by February 2022. Apart from that, the Skoda Slavia is clearly one of the most-awaited launches in the country and many have been eagerly waiting for the launch of the Czech sedan in India.
That being said, the Skoda Slavia is the Czech brand's first sedan to be built under the company's 'India 2.0' strategy. Under this strategy, Skoda aims to set up a profitable business in the country.
This means Skoda plans to reduce the manufacturing cost of its vehicles by aggressively localizing the production as much as possible without affecting the overall quality that has been associated with the brand.
While the Skoda Slavia is a replacement for the ageing Skoda Rapid in India, the new Skoda Slavia is a size bigger than the Skoda Rapid. This is because the upcoming Skoda Slavia uses the Czech brand's versatile MQB-A0-IN platform, which also happens to underpin the recently launched Skoda Kushaq SUV.
Thanks to the MQB-A0 IN platform, we also expect the upcoming Skoda Slavia to come with good interior space and high ground clearance.
Since the upcoming Skoda Slavia and the recently launched Skoda Kushaq use an identical platform, the upcoming Skoda Slavia is also likely to be powered by the same two engine options that power the Skoda Kushaq SUV.
This means the upcoming Skoda Slavia will come with1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with 113bhp and 178NM of torque and a more potent 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with 148bhp and 250Nm of torque.
If the Skoda Kushaq and the upcoming Skoda Slavia share the same engines, then the Skoda Slavia will come with 6-speed manual transmission as standard. However, the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine will get the 7-speed DSG transmission as an option, whereas the 1.0-litre version will get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Though Skoda is yet to announce the price of Skoda Slavia in India, we expect, Skoda to price the upcoming Skoda Slavia aggressively yet a smidge above the current ex-showroom price of the Skoda Rapid.
Thoughts About Skoda Slavia
Since the Skoda Kushaq SUV and the Skoda Slavia are built on the same platform, we expect a similar level of space inside the cabin if not more. Moreover, by using a similar platform, Skoda Auto India will be able to price the Skoda Slavia quite aggressively.
