Skoda Slavia Infotainment Unit Size Reduced
The Skoda Slavia sedan quickly gained traction in the Indian automobile market with more than 10,000 bookings within a month from its date of launch. However, due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage, Skoda has now decided to replace the 10-inch infotainment unit with a smaller 8-inch unit.
In a reply tweet, Zac Hollis, Skoda India Brand Director confirmed that the top-spec variants of the Skoda Slavia sedan will receive a smaller 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. Though it was rumoured that the wireless charging will also be removed from the updated feature list, Mr Hollis confirmed that the wireless charging will be present.
"In light of the continued semi-conductor shortage, we have made some minor updates to the equipment in our INDIA 2.0 cars w.e.f. 1st June onwards, so that our customers face no undue delays in taking delivery of their ŠKODA. Customers will be appraised of the feature updates by their dealers. We at ŠKODA AUTO India thank you for choosing a ŠKODA and for standing by us in these times of supply shortages. Irrespective of the global situation, we shall always endeavor to provide the best buying and ownership experience with a ŠKODA." Zac Hollis, Brand Director, SKODA Auto India
Recently, the Czech automaker's sales volume in March 2022 stood at 5,608 units - making it the highest ever monthly sales for the company since its operations in the country, this sales performance also resulted in a YoY sales growth of 383.86 per cent.
Skoda launched the Skoda Slavia sedan on 28th February 2022 with a starting price of Rs 10.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base ‘Active' trim with the 1.0-litre TSI engine and manual transmission.
Three days later, Skoda launched the Slavia with the larger 1.5-litre TSI engine. The prices for the Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI equipped starts from Rs 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom, India). However, the automatic variant is priced at Rs 17.79 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Speaking about the Skoda Slavia, the sedan is built on the same MQB-A0 IN platform as the Skoda Skushaq SUV, and as a result, the sedan is much larger than the Skoda Rapid sedan sold in India.
Apart from that, the Skoda Slavia has a strong resemblance to the Skoda Kushaq SUV in terms of its interior layout as well. However, the Skoda Slavia comes with a more sophisticated digital instrument console as an added feature and the interior looks very premium with its layered dashboard and free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit.
In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Slavia sedan is 4,541mm long, 1,752mm wide and 1,487mm tall. Apart from that, the Czech sedan has the longest wheelbase in its class at 2,651mm. Also, the Skoda Slavia's boot measures at 521-litres.
Skoda Slavia sedan comes with two engine options. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces 113bhp of peak power and 175Nm of peak torque. Moreover, this engine comes mated either to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The next engine option is a larger and more powerful 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with 150bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque. However, the automatic transmission in the 1.5 TSI unit is a more sophisticated 7-speed DSG unit.
This engine also comes with ACT (Active Cylinder Technology), which shuts down two of its four cylinders to improve fuel efficiency and emissions.
In terms of features, the new Skoda Slavia will now sport features such as an 8-inch infotainment unit, connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control system, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, an electric sunroof, a wireless charger, rear AC vents and many more.
In terms of safety, the Skoda Slavia sedan comes with plenty of safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, an electronic differential system (EDS), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and many more.
Thoughts About The Skoda Slavia
The semiconductor shortage has hit the automotive market very hard. Though the decision to downgrade the size of the infotainment screen was made to speed up the production, many customers are not happy with the smaller infotainment screen in the top-end variants of the Slavia sedan.
