Czech carmaker Skoda is set to launch the Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition in India on the 9th of May. The Monte Carlo Edition will be the top-spec version of the Kushaq SUV and is expected to be priced at around Rs 18-20 lakhs when launched.
Like every other Monte Carlo edition badged Skoda car, the Kushaq's new top-spec variant will get a few design tweaks.
These styling changes will set it apart from the rest of the Kushaq lineup and should include a blacked-out grille, smoke effect for the head and taillights along with a black paint job for the mirrors, roof rails and wheels. The top-spec SUV is also expected to feature Monte Carlo badging on the outside.
The interiors of the Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition are also set to get the same treatment as other cars bearing the badge. These should include a dark interior with red highlights. The Monte Carlo Edition is also expected to get the updated digital driver's display seen on the new Slavia sedan. The floating touchscreen infotainment display supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Underneath the bonnet, the Skoda Slavia is expected to feature both the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol powerplants found on the regular Kushaq. The 1.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 114bhp at 5,000rpm and 178Nm of peak torque.
The larger 1.5-litre engine produces 148bhp at 5,000rpm and 250Nm of peak torque at 1,500rpm. Both engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The smaller 1.0-litre engine is offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic or a 7-speed twin-clutch DSG automatic gearbox.
The Skoda Kushaq is part of one of the most popular segments in the country. The segment continues to be dominated by the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. Other vehicles in the category include the likes of the Nissan Kicks, MG Hector and its Volkswagen Group cousin, the Taigun.
Thoughts On the Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition
The Skoda Kushaq kick-started the Volkswagen Group's renaissance in the Indian market. The Monte Carlo edition will bring with it a hint of colour along with a host of extra features. However, the fact of the matter is that Kushaq is a part of the most competitive segment in the country and with rivals like the Seltos and Creta running riot and Toyota and Maruti set to enter soon, Skoda will have to up its game to ensure that the growth started by the Kushaq doesn't peter out.
