Skoda India Sales: YoY Sales Up By More Than 700 Per Cent
With the launch of the Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia, the Czech car manufacturer received more than decent traction in the Indian automobile market.
Moreover, Skoda Kushaq is the first vehicle under the Volkswagen Group to be manufactured in India with the India 2.0 business strategy in place. Thanks to this aggressive business strategy, 95 per cent of the vehicle is locally manufactured to cut production costs and increase profits for the automaker.
As mentioned earlier, the launch of the Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia has helped the automaker in the Indian market. As a result, the sales figures for Skoda India have jumped by a few folds - Thanks to the success of new models.
In June 2022, Skoda sold a total of 6,023 units of its cars in India. In comparison, Skoda only managed to sell just 734 units in June 2021, which resulted in a YoY sales increase of more than 720 per cent.
Dissecting the numbers, Skoda India managed to sell 4,604 units in May 2022, which is less than the 6,000+ units sold in June 2022. This means Skoda India's MoM sales figures improved by 1,419 units, resulting in MoM growth of more than 30 per cent.
Also, a Skoda dealership in Tamilnadu had delivered 125 units of Skoda Slavia sedan on the same day in the month of June 2022. Though not a record-breaking number, the delivery of 125 units of Skoda Slavia sedan is a commendable achievement by the dealership.
Speaking about the dealership, the 125 units of Slavia sedan were delivered by SGA Cars in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. Moreover, This 'Mega Delivery event could be seen as a testament to the traction gained by the recently launched Skoda Slavia sedan in India.
Speaking about the new Skoda Slavia, the recently latest Czech sedan replaced the ageing Skoda Rapid sedan in India and competes against other sedans in its segment such as the Volkswagen Virtus, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Hyundai Verna.
Recently, Skoda India was heavily criticised online for replacing the large 10-inch infotainment unit in the Slavia sedan with a smaller 8-inch infotainment unit. Though this unit is similar to the 10-inch infotainment unit, it misses out on the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
Skoda | Sales | Jun 2022 Sales Vs | Growth (%) |
Jun-22 | 6,023 | Jun 2021 (YoY) | 720.57 |
Jun-21 | 734 | May 2022 (MoM) | 30.82 |
May-22 | 4,604 | - | - |
Skoda claims that this decision to use an 8-inch infotainment unit was taken due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage as it would speed up the production process. Overall, we do not expect to see a major dip in sales due to this reason.
Thoughts About Skoda Sales Breakup Of June 2022
Thanks to the launch of Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia, the Czech automaker seems to have regained good traction in the Indian market. Moreover, we expect these numbers to go up in the coming months.
