Skoda Auto India Witnesses Strong Recovery In 2021: Registers 130 Per Cent Growth
Skoda Auto India witnesses a strong recovery in 2021 by registering a triple-digit growth rate. In 2021, Skoda Auto India sold 23,858 units, which is 13,471 units more than what the company managed in 2020.
Skoda Auto India claims that the 60 per cent of the overall sales is contributed by the recently launched Skoda Kushaq SUV.
Moreover, the Czech manufacturer sold 3,234 units in December alone and closed the year on a high note. In Comparision, Skoda Auto India could manage to sell just 1,303 units in December 2020.
Speaking about the Skoda Kushaq, it is the Czech brand's first model to be built under the 'India 2.0' strategy and under this strategy, Skoda Auto aims to set up a profitable business in the country.
For this, Skoda has aggressively localised the production as much as possible and the Czech car manufacturer managed to achieve almost 93 per cent localisation for the Kushaq SUV. This localisation has enabled Skoda Auto to price the Kusaq SUV competitively.
Moreover, Skoda Kushaq is built on the company's versatile new MQB-A0 IN platform. That being said, the Skoda Kusaq is offered in India with two engine options. The more frugal one is the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine with 115bhp and 178Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, but customers can also opt for an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The 1.5-litre TSI engine on the other hand is the more potent one with 150bhp and 250Nm of torque and like the 1.0-litre TSI variant, this engine can be optioned with automatic or manual transmissions. However, the automatic transmission that comes mated to the 1.5-litre TSI engine is a slightly more advanced 7-speed DSG unit.
Features-wise, the Skoda Kushaq comes well-loaded with features such as a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, touch-sensitive air-con controls, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera, LED headlamps, cooled seats, wireless charging pad, and a few more.
The Skoda Kushaq even comes well loaded in terms of safety with features such as ABS with EBD, TCS, a multi-collision braking system, hill start assist, hill hold control, Anti-Slip Regulation and Motor Slip Regulation, Brake Disc Wiping, Roll Over Protection, Electronic Differential Locking System, Electronic Stability Control, 6 airbags, TPMS, ISOFIX points and a few more.
The Skoda Kushaq competes against the likes of Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Volkswagen Taigun, Kia Seltos and a few more in this segment and prices start from Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base petrol variant.
Thoughts About Skoda Auto India
Skoda Kushaq has turned the tides for the Czech brand in India. Post the launch of Skoda Kushaq, the brand has registered strong sales in the country. Apart from that, Skoda is now gearing up for the launch of Skoda Slavia in India.
With the launch of Skoda Slavia, the sales volume of Skoda is more likely to go higher. Overall, 2022 looks very bright for the Czech automobile manufacturer in India.
