Renault Kiger Gets 4-Star Safety Rating From Global-NCAP: Outscores Nissan Magnite
Renault Kiger SUV makes it to the list of safest cars in India with a 4-Star safety rating from Global-NCAP. Moreover, the french sub-4m SUV outscored its Japanese cousin, the Nissan Magnite in Adult Occupant Protection score.
In the crash test conducted by Global-NCAP, the Renault Kiger scored 12.34 points out of 17 points, narrowly beating the Nissan Magnite by just 0.49 points.
Though the French sub-4m SUV managed a 2-Star rating for the child occupant protection test, it lagged behind the 24.88 points scored by Nissan Magnite by scoring just 21.05 points out of 49 points.
Like the Nissan Magnite, the child occupant protection rating took a hit as the base variant of the Renault Kiger lacked ISOFIX anchoring points needed to fix the child seat, resulting in an unwanted forward movement of the child seat.
One of the reasons for Renault Kiger's exceptionally good performance in the Global-NCAP crash testing can be credited to its CMF-A+ platform. This platform happens to underpin global products such as the Renault Triber and the platform itself is a derivative of Renault's CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid.
That being said, the Nissan Magnite also scored a 4-Star safety rating for adult occupant Protection in the latest Global-NCAP crash test.
As for the French car manufacturer, the Renault Kiger has been one of the brand's more successful models in India with consistent month-on-month sales numbers. Though Renault is not aggressive as Nissan in terms of marketing, the SUV has been quite popular among urban buyers.
The Renault Kiger is powered by two petrol engine options. The base petrol engine is a 72bhp 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 96Nm of peak torque.
Whereas the other engine is a 1.0-litre turbocharged unit, and thanks to forced induction technology, this engine produces a bit more power and torque at 98.6bhp and 160Nm of torque.
Both engines are available with a 5-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission as options. However, the naturally-aspirated unit uses an AMT gearbox, whereas the turbocharged unit uses a CVT gearbox.
Prices for the Renault Kiger starts from Rs 5.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant, whereas the top-end variant with a turbocharged engine, CVT gearbox, and Dual-Tone paint costs Rs 10.22 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Thoughts About Renault Kiger SUV
