The next-generation Range Rover Sport is also set to offer a host of mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines that can also be found under the bonnet of the new Range Rover. Also set to arrive along with the mild-hybrid setups is a plug-in hybrid version of the British SUV. This version of the Range Rover Sport, claims Autocar UK, will utilise a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine along with a 141bhp electric motor that comes paired to a 31.8kWh battery pack that will provide 100 kilometres of electric-only range. Additionally, a V8 hybrid setup similar to the one found on the BMW Concept XM could make its way to the Range Rover Sport to create what could be the most powerful Land Rover model to date.

Land Rover has also confirmed that it will bring out an EV version of all of its models by the end of the decade starting with the regular Range Rover in 2024. Whether the new Range Rover Sport EV will be propelled by a BMW derived electric powertrain is still to be confirmed. However, with BMW and Land Rover partnering up for the shared development of new EV powertrains, we shouldn't say no to that possibility just yet.

Thoughts On The Range Rover Sport's New German Heart

The current Range Rover Sport SVR is a proper little monster with its supercharged V8. However, the next-gen model is set to be even more powerful and will feature a new BMW sourced V8 with twin-turbochargers. So more power? Yes. However, the soundtrack will be slightly different thanks to the turbos and the higher-revving BMW V8.
