German sports car manufacturer Porsche has revealed the 911 Sports Classic. The new Porsche 911 Sports Classic is the successor to the 997 911 model that bore the same name and came out in 2009.
The new 2022 911 Sports Classic is the second car from Porsche's Heritage Design strategy after last year's 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition (seen above alongside the new Sports Classic). The new 911 Sports Classic will be followed by two more collector's cars as part of Porsche's plans to celebrate its cars from the 1960s and 1970s. The new 911 Sports Classic is limited to just 1,250 units.
Speaking about the new 911 Sports Classic, Alexander Fabig, Vice President, Individualization and Classic said, "The Heritage Design models represent the most emotionally driven concepts of the Porsche product strategy. This unique approach sees the Style Porsche design department working with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to reinterpret iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s through to the 1980s and to revive design features from those decades."
2022 Porsche 911 Sports Classic Specs
The 2022 911 Sports Classic pays tribute to the legendary Porsches of the 1960s and 70s with its unique 3.7-litre twin-turbocharged engine that produces 542bhp. Power is sent to the rear wheels from the 911 Turbo derived engine via a 7-speed manual gearbox.
This makes the new 911 Sports Classic the most powerful manual Porsche currently on sale today. The gearbox also features an auto-blip function that compensates for engine-speed differences between the gears with a brief burst of revs when shifting down.
Porsche has also fitted the 911 Sports Classic with the sports exhaust as standard. The exhaust has been tailored specifically for the new Sports Classic to help it vent its fury at the dead dino loving world.
The new Sports Classic also features the same Porsche Active Suspension Management system found on the current Turbo and GTS models. The system features axle load tweaks to compensate for the loss of the four-wheel-drive system seen on the 911 Turbo. The Sports Classic also gets ceramic brakes as standard to help bring it to halt.
2022 Porshce 911 Sports Classic Design & Features
The new 911 Sports CLassic like its namesake from 2009 pays tribute to the original 911 from the 1960s and the iconic 1972 Carrera RS 2.7.
The new Sports Classic borrows the widebody look usually reserved for the Turbo family and also brings back the legendary ducktail spoiler as a tribute to the 1972 Carrera RS 2.7. In the 911 Sports Classic, the ducktail spoiler is made using carbon fibre reinforced plastic to help save weight. The 911 Sports Classic also features a unique double-bubble roof.
Other features included that are inspired by the 911's heritage include the Fuchs style alloy wheels. These centre lock wheels are offered in either 20 and 21-inch sizes and are a tribute to the 1967 911S. The new Sports Classic also features 'Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur' and Porsche Heritage badges finished in gold.
The 911 Sports Classic's upholstery is a fine two-tone aniline leather shindig while the pepita houndstooth pattern on the door panels and seat centres pays tribute to the 1965 911 where it was first offered as an option.
The new 2022 Porsche 911 Classic is offered in three colour options also seen on other Porsche vehicles - Black, Agate Grey Metallic or Gentian Blue Metallic. The 911 Sports Classic also gets an exclusive paint scheme in the form of the Sport Grey metallic paint. The side number graphics are a no-cost option and owners can choose any number between 1 and 99.
Thoughts On The 911 Sports Classic
The Porsche 911 is the most powerful manual 911 currently on sale anywhere in the world. This should be more than enough to draw the attention of any Porsche fanboy. Add in the heritage touches and the exclusivity and the 911 Sports Classic suddenly seems like the absolute must-have car for every Porsche nutter in the world. If you have the dough, grab yours before they disappear.
