Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 Vs BMW M4 Competition xDrive: Specs Comparo
BMW and Porsche recently launched their respective sports car in India. While Munich-based German automaker launched the M4 Competition xDrive, the Stuttgart-based automaker launched the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.
While both sports cars offer exhilarating performance, both cars have their own way of making your heart beat faster. Apart from that, both cars are priced within a few lakhs of each other.
Starting with the design, both the BMW M4 Competiton xDrive and the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 steal eyeballs wherever they go. However, the Porsche somehow feels a bit more special, thanks to its mid-engined layout.
As both sports cars are priced well above crore and half rupees in India, the customers who drive these cars will expect some features to make their life easier.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 comes with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Porsche Communication Management, a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and many more. Moreover, it also comes equipped with other features such as Track Precision App, voice commands, Porsche Connect and more.
Along with these features, the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 also comes with the Porsche's excellent launch control system for near-perfect launches every time.
In comparison, the BMW also offers similar equipments, however, the BMW M4 Competiton xDrive is a bit more practical with its larger 440-litre boot.
In terms of performance, the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is powered by a 4.0-litre, naturally-aspirated, six-cylinder petrol engine. This atmospheric engine produces 395bhp of peak power and 420Nm of peak torque.
Moreover, the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 can be optioned with either a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the torque figure jumps to 430Nm when these sports cars are equipped with the 7-speed PDK automatic transmission.
According to Porsche, the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 can reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 293km/h.
In comparison, the BMW M4 Competition xDrive is powered by a smaller 3.0-litre straight-six engine. However, this engine is boosted by two turbochargers and produces 501bhp of peak power and 650Nm of peak torque.
Unlike the Porsche, the BMW M4 Competition xDrive comes with an 8-speed torque convertor gearbox and a trick all-wheel-drive system.
This advanced drivetrain enables the BMW M4 Competition xDrive could catapult itself from a standstill to a 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and reach an electronically-limited topspeed of 290km/h.
Finally coming to the pricing, the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is priced at Rs 1.46 crore (ex-showroom, India), whereas the BMW M4 Competition xDrive model in India has been priced at Rs 1.43 Crore (ex-showroom, India).
Thoughts About Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 & BMW M4 Competition xDrive
Both Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and BMW M4 Competition xDrive offer brain-numbing performances, however, both these companies have taken a different approach to demolish the lap times at any track.
Given the Indian driving condition and shortage of race tracks, more performance from the BMW M4 Competition can be extracted with relative ease.
