More Than 44,000 Units Of Kia Carens MPV Recalled - Here’s Everything You Need To Know
Kia India has issued a recall for the Kia Carens MPV in India. This is the second recall of Kia Carens MPV in the country, and the third recall for the South Korean automaker. The latest recall has been made to fix a potential issue with the airbag control unit software.
According to Kia India, it will be recalling 44,174 units of Kia Carens MPV in India, and each individual customer will be reached out to inform about the recall. In addition to that, Kia in a press release has stated that the customers will have to visit the dealership to schedule an appointment for the recall, or the customer can also do the same through the official website or Kia mobile application.
Speaking about Kia Carens, the South Korean automaker quickly recorded more than 50,000 bookings for the MPV in a relatively short period of time and this demand very much exceeded the automaker's expectations for the MPV. Also, 43 per cent of the bookings for the MPV is for the top-end Luxury and Luxury Plus variants, and this resulted in a longer waiting period.
However, the demand for Kia Carens MPV is not only limited to tier 1 cities, but the MPV was a popular choice in tier 2 and tier 3 cities as well. This increased popularity could be credited to the MPV's aggressive pricing and positioning in the 7-seater segment.
Like all Kia models, the Kia Carens MPV also comes with plenty of features onboard, this includes features such as a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, an 8-speaker BOSE sound system, Kia's UVO connected car tech, ambient lighting, cooled glove box, ventilated seats at the front, wireless charger, an electric sunroof, roof-mounted AC for 2nd and 3rd-row passengers, cooled cup holders, air purifier, full-digital driver's display, and lot more.
Apart from that, the Kia Carens also comes equipped with top-tier safety features such as 6-airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), vehicle stability control (VSC), BAS, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ABS, EBD, ISOFIX Mounts, hill-hold assistance, all-wheel disc brakes and a few more.
Coming to the powertrain options, the Kia Carens MPV comes with three engine options, the base powertrain is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine with 113bhp of peak power and 144Nm of peak torque. The next engine option is a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 138bhp of peak power and 242Nm of peak torque.
The last engine option is a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 114bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque. In terms of gearbox options, the 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard across all engine options. However, the automatic transmissions are offered only in diesel engine and turbocharged petrol engine options.
At present, the booking amount for the Kia Carens MPV is capped at Rs 25,000, and prices for the MPV start from Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base variant and goes all the way up to Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-end variant.
