Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ Electric Sedan Launched In India At Rs 2.45 Crore

In India, Mercedes-Benz has opted to initially launch the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan instead of the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 electric sedan. However, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 electric sedan will be launched later in the country.

Speaking about the Mercedes-Benz EQS, the electric sedan is aerodynamically the 'slipperiest' car at just 0.20cd. It is also worth mentioning that the newly launched Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan is the sportier iteration of the Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan.

Being an AMG, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan comes with a more powerful drivetrain setup and also sports visual tweaks to make the electric sedan stand out from the regular Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan.

In terms of exterior design changes on the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan, the most obvious changes include the new AMG-styled alloy wheels and a slightly sportier rear spoiler. Thanks to these changes, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is slightly less aerodynamic at 0.23cd.

Other than that, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ features a very sleek coupe-like silhouette and the body complemented by a blacked-out paint job. It also features a very distinct LED lighting with DRL that stretches from the top outer corner portion of one headlight to the other.

Being an EV, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ also sports a uniquely designed front grille with a large Mercedes-Benz logo in the centre and chrome inserts. At the rear, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ features a similar lighting element that stretches from one end to the other. Also, the rear brake lights will also form a curved 3D helix.

On the inside, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 electric sedan will be the first Mercedes-Benz model in the country to introduce the 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment unit which uses three separate OLED displays into one curved piece of Gorilla Glass.

This system is a seamless unit made to look like it is floating over the dashboard and it is powered by 8 CPU cores and has 24 GB of RAM. It also features haptic feedback with the help of twelve actuators hidden under the touchscreen itself. The three displays integrated into the Hyperscreen measure 12.3-inch, 17.7-inch and 12.3-inch, respectively.

Under the skin, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ features a 107.8kWh battery pack (high-density battery pack) that powers the two electric motors placed at each axle. Together, these two motors produce a mind-boggling 750bhp of max power and 1020Nm of peak torque. The electric sedan is said to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

In addition to that, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ supports fast charging up to 200kW. This means the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ can charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 31 minutes. However, a 7.4kW charger will take more than 15 hours to charge the EV to its full capacity. Mercedes claims that the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ can do up to 586km on a full charge.

Other interesting bits include rear-axle steering, AMG-specific sounds, Level-2 ADAS, face recognition, 5-Star safety rating, active suspension, and much more. Also, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan comes in 6 exterior colour options.

It is also worth mentioning that the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan will be produced in India as a CKD model at its manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune. In terms of service, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan has one of the longest service intervals at 2 years or 30,000km.

With the launch of the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan, the German automaker will compete against the like of Audi RS e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan Turbo S. However, Mercedes positions the model in such a way that it can be enjoyed while driving and equally enjoyed as a chauffeur driven car.
