1200bhp Maserati GranTurismo Folgore EV Revealed Ahead Of 2023 Debut - Who Said Electric Was Boring?
Italian sports car manufacturer Maserati has revealed the all-electric GranTurismo Folgore in a new video. The production-spec Maserati GranTurismo Folgore will make its debut sometime in 2023.
Italian sports car manufacturer Maserati has revealed the all-electric GranTurismo Folgore in a new video. The production-spec Maserati GranTurismo Folgore will make its debut sometime in 2023.
In the video, the upcoming all-electric version of Maserati's two-door four seater sports car can be seen blasting through California's roads during the recently concluded Monterey Car Week. While the GranTurismo Folgore's exterior was there for everyone to see, Maserati's video some sections of the interior especially the driver's side of the cockpit away from prying eyes thanks to some post-processing witchcraft.
And who got the honour of being the first non-Maserati company guy to experience the GranTurismo Folgore? Well Maserati picked Sebastian Maniscalco, a stand up comedian and actor best known for playing American mobster 'Crazy' Joey Gallo in Martin Scorcese's 2018 movie, The Irishman.
The short film dubbed 'Maserati GranTurismo Folgore. Roaring in California' starts off with Maserati Chief Designer Klauss Busse and Chief Communication Officer Maria Conti introducing the all-electric Gran Turismo Folgore to the comedian.
When Maniscalco asks about Folgore, Conti explains to him that this is the badge that all cars from Maserati will bear if they have an EV powertrain. 'Folgore' is the Italian word for 'Lightning'. Busse then starts waxing lyrical about the new GranTurismo Folgore's battery pack being stuffed into the formerly ICE vehicle's transmission tunnel.
The comedian who feels honoured to be the first one outside Maserati to experience the GranTurismo Folgore on the open road starts talking about that he doesn't really associate electric with fun but rather boring. This prompts Busse to put his right foot to the floor pinning Maniscalco to his seat as the Folgore puts its electric 1,200bhp to the road.
The GranTurismo Folgore, when it arrives in 2023 will feature a three motor setup that produces the aforementioned 1,200bhp. Maserati claims that the GranTurismo Folgore will sprint from 0-60 miles/hour (0-96.5km/h) in just 2.6 seconds with the 0-100km/h sprint taking 2.7 seconds. While this is quicker than Maserati's current lineup it doesn't seem as fast as Tesla's Model S Plaid which does 0-60 miles/hour sprint in under 2 seconds. Maserati claims that the GranTurismo Folgore will hit a top speed in excess of 200 miles/hour (321.8km/h).
Maserati still hasn't revealed any details about the battery pack that will sit under the floor of the GranTurismo Forgole but the new video from the Italian luxury marque shows just how quickly those cells will regain its charge levels. Maserati in the video claims that the GranTurismo Folgore will add 100 kilometres of range in just 5 minutes with 100 miles (161km) of range being added in just 10 minutes when the electric sports car is connected to an ultra fast EV charger.
Thoughts About The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore
The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore gives us our first glimpse at how the Italian marques will tackle the problem of EVs more fun. From what we can see in the video from Maserati, the Trident-badge brand seems to have solved that particular problem with a bonkers 1,200bhp tri-motor setup.
