Maruti Suzuki is set to reveal its mid-size hybrid SUV on the 20th of July, the nation's largest carmaker has revealed.
The Maruti Suzuki mid-size SUV codenamed YFG is expected to bear the Vitara name when it arrives on the 20th of this month. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara is expected to feature different styling compared to its Toyota sibling the Urban Cruiser Hyryder which was revealed on the 1st of July.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara SUV will share its mechanical parts with its Toyota sibling. The Toyota Urban Cruiser is offered with both mild hybrid and full (strong) hybrid powertrain options.
The mild hybrid option is a powertrain quite familiar to Maruti Suzuki owners and uses Suzuki's K15C 1.5-litre engine and an integrated starter generator setup which is good for 101bhp and 135Nm of peak torque. This powertrain will be offered with both front and all-wheel drive options and will come with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options.
The strong hybrid setup uses a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle engine and a single electric motor that combined together are good for peak outputs of 113.4bhp and 135Nm of peak torque. This setup will be offered with an e-CVT gearbox and will only be offered in front-wheel drive.
The Maruti Suzuki YFG (Vitara) SUV will also share its underpinnings with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Hyryder is 4,365mm long and 1,795mm wide and 1,635mm tall. The wheelbase of the Toyota SUV is 2,600mm long.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara is also expected to share its interiors with the Hyryder from Toyota. The 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, which was first seen on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno will be carried over to the Vitara SUV and will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity along with compatibility with voice assistants and smart watches.
The infotainment display is also expected to play host to the interface for Maruti Suzuki's host of connected car features from the Suzuki Connect suite. The new Maruti Suzuki Vitara is also expected to carry over the digital instrument cluster, steering wheel, heads-up display, wireless phone charger and the 360 degree camera setup.
Thoughts About The Maruti Suzuki Vitara
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara will carry over all the features of the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder but will feature its own distinct design. The return of the Vitara badge will also see Maruti Suzuki return to the mid-size SUV segment after quite a while. Hopefully, this time with its dual hybrid powertrain options and Maruti Suzuki's penchant for aggressive pricing, the new Vitara could prove to be a popular option this festive season.
