Mahindra BE & Twin Peaks Electric SUV Brands Revealed - 5 New EVs Unveiled
While there is no doubt that electric cars are the future, it seems that the EV revolution will take place much sooner than anticipated. That being said, Mahindra has now revealed two of its electric SUV brands - BE, and Twin Peaks.
Under the two new electric brands, Mahindra is looking forward to launching five new electric SUVs. This includes XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09. Though these SUVs come under two different brands, all of these upcoming electric vehicles sport Mahindra's new Heartcore design philosophy and INGLO platform.
According to Mahindra XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, and BE.07 will be launched between 2024 and 2026. Whereas Mahindra has not revealed any tentative launch year for the BE.09 electric SUV.
Other than this, the INGLO platform will be compatible with state-of-the-art features such as augmented reality-enabled heads-up displays, 5G network compatibility, connected car tech, OTA updates, and edge-to-edge screens.
Additionally, Mahindra claims that the INGLO platform is a highly optimised architecture with a modular and scalable design. Moreover, the INGLO platform allows engineers to develop multiple forms of electric SUVs as well.
Mahindra is also keen to mention that the new INGLO platform has a very low underbody weight, which has resulted in having one of the lightest 'skateboards'. Also, thanks to its reduced weight, use of advanced battery management, and intelligent electronic brake system, Mahindra claims that its electric SUVs built on the INGLO platform will return a class-leading range.
In addition to this, Mahindra has said that the electric SUVs built on the INGLO platform will feature techs such as a semi-active suspension system, dual-pinion high power steering system, and brake-by-wire technology. The latter will allow multiple brake modes for pedal feel and recuperation according to Mahindra.
Speaking about modes, the INGLO platform will also sport multiple drive modes and also come with advanced driver aids. In fact, Mahindra claims that the INGLO platform is future-proofed with Level-2+ autonomous driving capability.
Another interesting feature mentioned was the ability of the electric SUVs built on the INGLO platform to turn into a 'power bank'. Yes, the INGLO platform allows Vehicle To Load (V2L) functionality, through which the INGLO electric SUVs can be used to charge or power household appliances.
However, the party piece of the INGLO platform is its built-in intelligence that can perform millions of calculations per second. For this, the INGLO platform uses three high-performance computers to precisely calculate all the computations in a fraction of a second. Moreover, thanks to 5G technology, the INGLO platform can seamlessly connect to the cloud platform and download OTA updates.
Mahindra has also confirmed that the INGLO platform will support battery capacity up to 80kWh. To charge such a large battery, Mahindra claims that the INGLO platform supports fast charging up to 175kW and can charge its vehicles up to 80 per cent of their capacity in just 30 minutes.
Additionally, Mahindra has claimed that the new electric SUV range comprises of both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layouts, and the rear-wheel drive models have power output up to 228bhp and AWD models have power output up to 335bhp.
Thoughts About Mahindra's Upcoming Electric SUVs
With the launch of electric SUVs from Mahindra, we can see plenty of changes in the Indian automobile market as other car manufacturers will also start to heavily invest in EV development and manufacturing in India.
