Mahindra Atom: Variants, Powertrain, Range & More
Mahindra Atom is a fully-electric quadricycle that has been designed to meet the requirement of last-mile transportation. Apart from that, the Mahindra Atom made its debut back in 2018 at the Auto Expo.
When launched, Mahindra Atom will be the first electric quadricycle in India and will compete against the like of Bajaj Qute. Speaking about Bajaj Qute, though the model is currently powered by an IC engine, Bajaj Auto is reportedly developing an electric version of the same.
Coming back to the Mahindra Atom, the quadricycle was recently spotted testing wearing heavy camouflage near Bangalore. Moreover, thanks to its compact dimensions and boxy design, the upcoming Mahindra Atom is likely to be an excellent choice for urban runabouts.
In addition to that, the Mahindra Atom has been homologated, hinting that the automaker is likely to launch the quadricycle very soon in the Indian automobile market.
As per the leaked document, the upcoming Mahindra Atom electric quadricycle will be available in 4 different variants - Atom K1, Atom K2, Atom K3, and Atom K4.
The documents also reveal that the Atom K1 and Atom K2 variants are powered by a 98kg battery pack with a battery capacity of 7.4kWh, whereas the Atom K3 and K4 sport a larger battery pack weighing 145kg and 11.kWh capacity.
In addition to that, the leaked documents also reveal the electrical consumption of the Mahindra Atom and the Atom K1 and Atom K2 variants are rated at 90Wh/km, whereas the Atom K3 and Atom K4 are rated at 106Wh/km.
The leaked documents also reveal the exterior dimensions of the upcoming Mahindra Atom and as per the documents, the electric quadricycle from Mahindra measures 1,452mm in width, 2,728mm in length, and 1,575mm in height.
Apart from that, the wheelbase of the upcoming Mahindra Atom stands at just 1,885mm, which would give the quadricycle a very compact footprint for easy manoeuvrability.
Also, the documents reveal that the Atom K2 and Atom K4 variants sport AC, and as a result weigh around 15kg and 17kg more than their respective non-AC counterparts at 847kg and 903kg, respectively.
In terms of powertrain, the upcoming Mahindra Atom electric quadricycle is likely to sport a single electric motor with a peak power output of 10.72bhp and continuous power output of 6.7bhp.
We expect, Mahindra Atom to cover a distance of 80km to 110km on a full charge and have a topspeed of around 60km/h.
With the launch of Mahindra Atom, we expect the company to initially focus on Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, where a majority of its customer base will consist of auto-rickshaw drivers who are looking for a viable upgrade.
Thanks to rising fuel costs, many auto-rickshaw drivers are now considering switching to EVs for better profits. We expect Mahindra to price the Atom aggressively with a launch price close to Rs 3 lakh mark.
Thoughts About Mahindra Atom
As fuel prices soar in India, many auto-rickshaw drivers are considering switching to EVs. All Mahindra has to do now is to launch the Atom with an aggressive price tag.
