Meet The Lamborghini Urus S - The Slightly Less Insane Super SUV
Italian carmaker Lamborghini has revealed the all-new Urus S SUV. The new Urus S will be the entry-level model of the Lamborghini SUV and will sit below the Urus Performante in the lineup.
Italian carmaker Lamborghini has revealed the all-new Urus S SUV. The new Urus S will be the entry-level model of the Lamborghini SUV and will sit below the manic, lightweight Urus Performante.
Lamborghini Urus S Specs & Dimensions
The Lamborghini Urus S continues to draw power from the same 3,996cc, twin-turbo 90-degree V8 that powers its lightweight Performante sibling. In the new Urus S, the force-fed V8 produces 657bhp at 6,000rpm and 850Nm of peak torque between 2,300 and 4,500rpm which is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
While the Urus S and its Performante sibling share the same engine, the new S model of the super Lambo SUV is 47 kilos than its lightweight sibling at 2,197kg (kerb weight).
This means that the new Urus S is 0.2 seconds slower to 100km/h compared to the Performante hitting the speed from a standstill in 3.5 seconds. 0-200km/h takes 12.5 seconds (a whole extra second compared to the Performante) and the top speed is 305km/h (1km/h less than its lightweight Urus sibling).
The Urus S's extra weight means that the more sedate Lambo SUV variant takes 0.80 metres more to come to a complete halt from 100km. The new Urus S covers 33.7 metres to go from 100-0km/h compared to the Performante's 32.9 metres.
The new Urus S is slightly smaller than its Performante sibling. The new Urus is 5,112mm long, 2,018mm wide and 1,638mm tall. The wheelbase of the Urus S is 3,003mm long.
Lamborghini Urus S Design & Features
The Urus S also takes inspiration from the Performante model for its design cues. Like its lightweight sibling, the new Urus S sports a new front bumper which is slightly more angular in the new entry-level Urus. The Urus S also gets a new bonnet, though this one isn't the lightweight carbon-fibre piece from the Performante.
Urus S owners can opt for a carbon fibre roof. The integrated roof spoiler element seen on the Performante has not made the cut along with the large front splitter. The Urus S rides on 21-inch alloy wheels as standard (shod with Pirelli rubber) and owners can opt for larger 22 and 23-inch units, some of which feature new designs.
The interiors of the new Urus S focus more on luxury and this version of Lamborghini's SUV features a whole lot more interior customization options compared to the Performante.
Speaking at the reveal of the Urus S, Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said, "The Urus has proven its appeal for those seeking the decisive combination of the sportiest SUV and a Lamborghini to drive every day: the Urus S sits perfectly alongside the new Urus Performante, for those choosing the purest sublimation of performance, luxury and versatility. The Urus' commercial success, with more than 20,000 vehicles produced, is testament to its credentials as the first and enduring Super SUV: the Urus S elevates that reputation."
Thoughts About The Lamborghini Urus S
The arrival of the Lamborghini Urus S shows just how popular the Italain marque's SUV has become. With two models focusing on two different aspects - Luxury and Performance - the Urus looks set to continue its trailblazing journey across Lamborghini's sales charts.
