Kia Seltos Now Sports 6 Airbags & Rear Disc Brakes As Standard
The Kia Seltos has been one of the most successful SUVs launched in the country. In addition to that, the Kia Seltos SUV was the first vehicle launched by Kia Motors in India. Essentially, the success of the Kia brand in India could be credited to Seltos SUV.
Though the sales figures of the Kia Seltos SUV has been consistent and strong, Kia has opted to silently update the Seltos SUV in India. However, this update is not the update we have been keenly waiting for (the upcoming facelift model).
The latest update on the Kia Seltos SUV adds 6 airbags and rear disc brakes as standard on all variants of the SUV. This makes Kia Seltos the only SUV in its segment to offer 6 airbags and rear disc brakes as a standard feature across all variants.
Though this update regarding the safety of the Seltos SUV may attract buyers, the update was not intended for the same purpose. This update was brought by the South Korean automaker to satisfy the new rule that mandates all cars sold in India to be equipped with 6 airbags from 1st of October 2022 onwards.
This makes Kia Seltos SUV one of the first models to incorporate the 6 airbags mandate. Following this update, we expect more cars to follow this new safety standard in the coming months.
It is also worth mentioning that, following the update that consists of 6 airbags and rear disc brakes, the South Korean automaker has increased the price of the Kia Seltos SUV up to Rs 30,000. This means the price for the Kia Seltos SUV now starts from Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
At present, Kia is testing the upcoming facelifted iteration of the Kia Seltos SUV in India and we expect this SUV to soon hit the Indian automobile market. However, we expect the facelifted model to continue the same engine as the outgoing model to keep the production cost under control.
Speaking about the powertrain, the Kia Seltos is powered by three engine options. The most popular engine choice is the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 113bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque. This engine can be specified with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an iMT or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The next engine option is a 1.5-litre naturally-spirated petrol engine with 113bhp of peak power and 144Nm of peak torque. This engine also comes with three gearbox options, but the automatic gearbox used in this powertrain is a CVT unit.
Finally, the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine puts out 138bhp of peak power and 242Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options include a 7-speed DCT unit and a 6-speed manual transmission.
Thoughts About The New Kia Seltos SUV
With 6 airbags and rear disc brakes becoming a standard fitment across the variants, the base variants of the Kia Seltos SUV now seem to make a lot more sense that its primary competitors. We expect more demand for the base variants of the Kia Seltos SUV from the coming month onwards.
