South Korean carmaker Kia has revealed its June 2022 sales numbers. Kia sold a total of 26,880 cars in the month of June 2022, a new record for the Korean marque in India.
Kia's Year-over-Year numbers grew by 60 per cent (9,009 units) in June 2022 compared to the same period last year. In June 2021, Kia sold a total of 15,015 vehicles in India. Kia's Y-o-Y growth can mostly be attributed to the presence of the Carens MPV in its lineup. Kia sold a total of 7,895 units of the Carens in June and was the brand's second best-selling model behind the Seltos SUV. Kia sold 8,388 units of the Seltos in June with the smaller Sonet taking the third spot with 7,455 units reaching new homes.
Kia's Month-over-Month sales metrics were also in the black. Kia's M-o-M numbers grew by 28.35 per cent (5,306 units) in June 2022 compared to the previous month. In May 2022, Kia sold a total of 18,718 cars in India.
Kia also raced past the 1 lakh sales milestone for the calendar year 2022 in the month of June. With its June numbers added in, Kia sold a total of 1,21,808 vehicles in the domestic market in the first half of 2022. This claims Kia was nearly 26 per cent more than its numbers in the first half of 2021.

Commenting on the South Korean automaker's performance in India, Hardeep Singh Brar, Vice President & Head of Sales and Marketing, Kia India said, "The immense love we are getting from the people of India is the result of the strong foundation of Kia in the country, backed by extensive research and customer-centricity. Despite the global supply chain constraints, we are still managing to achieve milestones in record time. This wouldn't have been possible without our customers' trust in the brand. We are deeply humbled for their continued support, and we promise to keep trying to enhance their buying and ownership journey further. We are well aware of the growing waiting period on our models but we are taking adequate measures to optimise the production and deliver to our customers at the earliest possible."
Kia's Sonet compact SUV recently crossed the 1.5 lakh sales milestone in India less than 2 years after it was launched in the country back in September 2020.
Last month, Kia entered the Indian EV market with its EV6 electric crossover SUV. Kia had opened bookings for the EV6 before its launch and by the time the prices were revealed the electric SUV was sold out for the year. Kia will start deliveries of the EV6 in September.
Thoughts On Kia's Sales Performance
Kia continues to be amongst the top 5 carmakers in India despite being a recent entrant into the market. With its focus on SUVs and MPVs, Kia has targeted the Indian car market's growth points and its strategy seems to be working as it posted a new sales record in June.
