Kia India Registers Highest Ever Monthly Sales - 25,87 Units Sold In September 2022
Kia India registered its highest ever monthly sales in September 2022 as the company managed to sell 25,857 units of its passenger vehicles in the country. At, present, Kia India has five products under its lineup including the Kia Sonet, Kia Seltos, Kia Carens, Kia Carnival, and Kia EV6.
Kia made its debut in India with the Seltos SUV, and the model quickly became one of the best-selling SUVs in India. In fact, the Kia Seltos continues to be the best-selling product in Kia's lineup.
Moreover, the Kia Sonet and Kia Carens together continue to further boost the sales figures for the South Korean automaker in India. Speaking of which, the Kia Carens MPV recently recorded more than 50,000 bookings in India.
Moreover, it is also worth mentioning that more than 21,000 bookings for the Carens MPV came from Tier 3 cities in India. This indicates that the South Korean automaker has penetrated into the Indian automobile market in a relatively short period of time.
One of the reasons for the Kia Carens' popularity in tier 2 and tier 3 cities could be credited to its aggressive pricing and this aggressive price tag allowed Kia India to position the Kia Carens MPV alongside Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki XL6, and sub-4m SUVs.
Speaking about the Kia Carens, prices for the MPV start from Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base variant and go up to Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-end variant with all the bells-and-whistles.
In terms of features, the Kia Carens MPV is one of the most feature-rich cars and it comes equipped with features such as a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, Kia's UVO connected car tech, ambient lighting, 8-speaker BOSE audio system, cooled glove box, an electric sunroof, ventilated seats at the front, wireless charging pad, roof-mounted AC for 2nd and 3rd-row passengers, cooled cup holders, air purifier, full-digital driver's display, and a lot more.
Despite the aggressive price tag and long feature list, Kia has not skimped any safety systems. In fact, the Kia Carens MPV comes equipped with top-tier safety features such as 6-airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), vehicle stability control (VSC), BAS, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ABS, EBD, ISOFIX Mounts, hill-hold assistance, all-wheel disc brakes and a few more.
Coming to the powertrain, the Kia Carens comes with three engine options. The base engine option is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol unit. This engine pushes out 113bhp of peak power and 144Nm of peak torque. The next petrol engine is a turbocharged, 1.4-litre unit with 138bhp of peak power and 242Nm of peak torque.
The third engine option is a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 114bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque. Coming to the transmission, a 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard across all engine options, however, the automatic transmission is offered only with the turbocharged powertrains. It is also worth adding that the automatic transmission in the diesel engine uses a 6-speed torque converter unit, whereas the turbocharged petrol unit uses a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
