Jeep Meridian: All You Need To Know
Jeep is gearing up to launch the Jeep Meridian SUV in India. The Jeep Meridian SUV is the 7-seater version of the Jeep Compass and we expect the company to launch the model before May 2022.
Speaking about the Jeep Meridian, the 7-seater SUV first made its global debut in the South American market as 'Jeep Commander'. However, Jeep opted not to use the 'Commander' name in the country to avoid legal discrepancy with Mahindra.
Design
In terms of design, the Jeep Meridian SUV looks a lot more premium than the Jeep Compass SUV - all thanks to its extended wheelbase over the Jeep Compass. Also, the 7-seater Jeep Meridian comes with slightly longer rear doors for easier ingress and egress for the middle & last-row passengers.
Starting from the front, the upcoming Jeep Meridian SUV sports a pair of rectangular headlamps with LED projector headlamps and integrated LED DRLs. Moreover, these rectangular headlights are connected by Jeep's signature 7-slat grille.
In addition to that, the front bumpers in the Jeep Meridian SUV are also different to the Jeep Compass with its large single air dam and a full-width chrome bar that neatly divides the front bumper into two portions. Thanks to this separation, the lower half of the front bumper is finished in black to aid the rugged looks of the SUV.
Interior
As Jeep has partially revealed the interior of the upcoming Jeep Meridian SUV in India, it must be said that the interior of Jeep Meridian looks a bit more upmarket than the facelifted version of the Jeep Compass SUV.
In addition to that, the brown leather interior makes the interior look a lot more premium and we expect the upcoming Jeep Meridian to also feature the same Suede trim on the dashboard as its South American counterpart, the Jeep Commander.
In addition to these premium bits, the Jeep Commander also gets rose gold accents on the centre console for more premium feel.
Features
In terms of features, the upcoming 2022 Jeep Meridian SUV will come with a lot of new features such as dual-zone climate control, a large 10.25-inch digital drivers display, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a large panoramic sunroof, multicolour ambient lighting, steering-mounted controls, cruise control and many more.
Safety
In terms of safety, we expect Jeep to equip the upcoming Jeep Meridian with all the necessary safety features such as multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electric parking brake, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control (TC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and many more.
In addition to these safety features, it wouldn't be surprising to see the top-end variant of the upcoming Jeep Meridian SUV to feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, and a few more
Engine & Gearbox
We expect the upcoming Jeep Meridian SUV to be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine, however, with an additional 48-volt mild-hybrid system for better performance and efficiency. Thanks to the hybrid system, this engine is expected to produce around 200bhp of peak power and 400Nm of peak torque.
Moreover, this hybridised diesel engine will be paired with Jeep's tried-and-tested 9-speed automatic transmission.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Jeep Meridian
At a glance, the Jeep Meridian looks a lot more premium and luxurious than the Jeep Compass and we expect the upcoming Jeep Meridian to spice up the premium 7-seater SUV segment in the country. However, the success of the Jeep Meridian SUV will heavily depend on the pricing.
