India’s First Toyota Hilux Delivered
Toyota has finally delivered the first-ever Hilux pick-up SUV in India. The images of the delivery of India's first Toyota Hilux pick-up SUV were shared on a Facebook group. However, the details such as variants and specifications of India's first Toyota Hilux pick-up SUV are yet to be known.
At present, the Toyota Hilux pick-up SUV is priced at Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and the bookings for the pick-up SUV are being accepted across the country for Rs 1 lakh at dealerships or Rs 50,000 via the brand's online platform.
In terms of design, the new Toyota Hilux looks very bold with its large hexagonal front grille and swept-back headlamps with stylish LED DRLs. Apart from that, the front bumper looks very muscular and rugged with its prominent bash plate.
In addition to that, the ruggedness is carried to the sides of the new Toyota Hilux with its large flared wheel arches, chunky black claddings and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Powering the Toyota Hilux is a tried-and-tested 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine from the Toyota Fortuner. This engine produces 201bhp of peak power and 500Nm of peak torque. In addition to that, this engine can be optioned with either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission.
It is also worth mentioning that the peak torque is limited to 420Nm in the manual variant of the Toyota Hilux pick-up SUV.
In addition to that, the Toyota Hilux also features a robust 4WD system. This system also comes with a low range transfer case, electronic differential locks and a limited-slip differential for improved off-road ability. Toyota also claims that the new Hilux pick-up SUV can wade through 700mm of water.
In terms of features, the Toyota Hilux pick-up SUV comes equipped with features such as an 8.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, second-row AC vents, TFT multi-function display, UV cut glass, steering mounted controls, a dual-zone climate control system, Electrochromatic mirrors, and many more.
In terms of size, the new Toyota Hilux pick-up SUV is longer than both the Innova Crysta and Fortuner. Apart from that, the new Toyota Hilux pick-up SUV also comes with a slightly longer wheelbase at 3,085mm, which is 335mm longer than the Toyota Innova Crysta's and 340mm longer than the Toyota Fortuner's wheelbase.
At present, the Toyota Hilux pickup SUV is marketed as a luxury pick-up truck to justify its price tag and directly competes with the Isuzu V-Cross in India. However, the prices for the Isuzu V-Cross starts from Rs 16.98 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Thoughts About The Toyota Hilux Pick-Up SUV
With the launch of the Toyota Hilux, we expect the lifestyle pickup truck segment in India to boom with new entrants. Moreover, we expect Toyota Hilux to be a successful product in India despite its tall pricing.
