Hyundai Likely To Launch The Facelifted Version Of Kona EV By The End Of This Year
Hyundai India is becoming aggressive with its electrification plans as the company is now planning to introduce six new electric cars by 2028 and focus on charging infrastructure.
At present, Hyundai's current product portfolio consists of Kona EV. Though this EV has been meeting expectations in Tier 1 Indian cities, the South Korean automaker may soon launch the facelifted version of the Kona EV to boost its sales.
As part of the update, the Hyundai Kona will receive an updated front and back end. Moreover, the updated version is also likely to get added feature list and slightly redesigned interiors.
We expect the upcoming Hyundai Kona EV to come with features such as a larger touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless phone charger, a cooled glove box, electrically adjustable seats and many more.
In addition to that, Hyundai could also offer the updated Kona EV with a larger 64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack for a longer range compared to the outgoing model which offers an ARAI certified range of 452kms using its 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The current version of the Hyundai Kona EV features a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) electric motor. This electric motor drives the front wheels and puts out 135bhp of peak power and 395 Nm of peak torque.
Hyundai says that the Kona EV can reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 9.7 seconds and charge from 0-80 per cent battery capacity in less than an hour using a 50 kW DC fast charger. However, the same feat using an AC charger takes a little more than 5 hours.
That being said, the company will be introducing its E-GMP modular architecture in the country and the company also added that the future electric cars from Hyundai will be based on this architecture and will be available in different body styles.
Recently, Hyundai Motor India officially announced that the company will soon launch the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle in India before the end of 2022. This new launch will expand the South Korean automaker's EV product portfolio in the country.
Speaking about the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the EV will become the South Korean automaker's second EV in the country after the Kona EV. Moreover, the Ioniq 5 EV was partially revealed at an event held in Delhi.
Standout exterior features of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV include 20-inch alloy wheels, raked rear glass, a pair of dual U-shaped LED DRLs, pop-out door handles, rectangular LED tail lamps, and an integrated rear spoiler.
In international markets, Hyundai offers the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle with two different battery packs. The smaller battery pack is a 58kWh unit, whereas the larger battery pack is a 72.6kWh unit.
The 'long-range' version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV can do 481kms per full charge, whereas the entry-level model can do 385kms on a full charge. In terms of powertrain, the 2WD variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle is powered by a single 215bhp electric motor, whereas the AWD model produces a total of 302bhp from its two electric motors.
We expect Hyundai to bring the Ioniq 5 EV to India as a CKD product and price the EV anywhere between Rs 35 lakh to Rs 45 lakh.
Thoughts About Updated Version Of Hyundai Kona EV
The Hyundai Kona EV is a decent electric SUV for anyone looking for an electric vehicle in India. With the launch of the updated version, Hyundai could increase its market share in India.
