Hyundai Ioniq 5 Launch In 2023 – Bookings To Be Opened On This Date

While Hyundai is looking forward to launching the Ioniq 5 in 2023, the bookings for the EV is said to commence from December 20.

That being said, Hyundai India recently flagged off the upcoming Ioniq 5 electric crossover from its corporate headquarters in Gurugram, where the electric vehicle will explore the 7 wonders of India.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Launch In 2023

These 7 wonders of India includes the likes of the Golden Temple, Taj Mahal, Temples of Khajuraho, Konark Sun Temple, Hampi, Gomteshwara Statue, and Ancient Ruins of Nalanda. Moreover, we expect Hyundai to showcase the Ioniq 5 electric crossover at the upcoming Auto Expo in January.

Speaking about the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the upcoming electric crossover utilises the South Korean automaker's famed and advanced Electric-Global Modular Platform (e-GMP). This means the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover is almost identical to the recently launched Kia EV6 electric crossover vehicle under the skin.

However, unlike the fully-imported Kia EV6 electric crossover that's been sold in India, the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover is a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit. This will allow Hyundai India to overcome the high taxes on fully imported vehicles. This means we can expect the Hyundai Ioniq 5 to have a significant price advantage over the Kia EV6 in India.

In terms of powertrain options, Hyundai currently offers the Ioniq 5 electric crossover with two different battery pack options in the international markets. This includes a 58kWh battery pack and a slightly larger 72.6kWh battery pack. In addition to these variations in the battery pack, Hyundai also offers both 2WD and AWD iterations of the Ioniq 5 electric crossover.

Diving into details, the 2WD variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover is powered by a single electric motor capable of churning out 215bhp of power and 350Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the AWD variant of the electric crossover comes equipped with two electric motors powering each axle and producing a combined power of 302bhp and 605Nm of torque.

In terms of range, the 'long-range' variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 equipped with the 72.6kWh battery pack and a 2WD set-up is rated to cover more than 481kms per full charge. However, we expect the fully-kitted AWD variant with the larger battery pack to be assembled and sold in India with a price tag anywhere between Rs 38 lakh to Rs 45 lakh mark.

Thoughts About The Upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5

The launch of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover will further expand the South Korean automaker's EV product portfolio in the country and we are expecting to see an overwhelming response from the target audience. That being said, the premium EV segment steadily gaining traction in India and the launch of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover will give the South Korean automaker decent authority in the premium EV segment.
