Hyundai Confirms Ioniq 5 Electric Vehicle For India: Launch In 2022 Itself
Hyundai Motor India has officially announced that the company will soon launch the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle in India before the end of 2022. In addition to that, the launch of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle in India will expand the South Korean automaker's product portfolio.
Speaking about the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the electric vehicle will be the South Korean automaker's second electric vehicle in India after the Hyundai Kona electric SUV. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle is also the 2022 World Car Of The Year winner.
The name 'Ioniq' is a combination of two words "ion" and "unique" and the model is built on the company's renowned Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), under the brand's 'Beyond Mobility' aegis.
Apart from that, Hyundai's intention to launch the Ioniq 5 EV was partially revealed when the South Korean automaker showcased the EV at an event held in Delhi.
On the outside, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 looks very futuristic with its sharp and edgy styling and on the inside, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV features environmentally friendly materials as a testimony to the company's commitment to sustainability.
Other features on the interior of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle include a pair of 12-inch screens with BlueLink connectivity and a full-colour heads-up display (HUD).
Standout features of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle include a pair of dual U-shaped LED DRLs, pop-out door handles, rectangular LED tail lamps, 20-inch alloy wheels, raked rear glass, and an integrated rear spoiler.
In terms of powertrain options, Hyundai offers the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle with two different battery packs. This includes a smaller 58kWh battery pack and a larger 72.6kWh battery pack.
Apart from that, Hyundai also offers both 2WD and AWD variants of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle.
The 2WD variant equipped with the larger 72.6kWh battery pack offers the highest range at 481kms per full charge. On the other hand, the same powertrain equipped with the smaller battery pack can do 385kms on a full charge.
The 2WD variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle is powered by a single 215bhp electric motor with 350Nm of peak torque output.
The AWD model on the other hand comes equipped with two electric motors powering each axle and producing a combined power and torque output of 302bhp and 605Nm of torque, respectively.
Given Hyundai's experience in CKD production, we expect Hyundai to bring the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle to India as a CKD product rather than a CBU unit.
Apart from that, Hyundai will assemble the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle at the company's state-of-the-art production facility near Chennai, Tamilnadu. Thanks to CKD route, expect the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 to be priced anywhere between Rs 35 lakh to Rs 44 lakh.
Thoughts About Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric Vehicle
The EV segment in India is slowly gaining traction in the Indian automotive market. However, the current EV offerings in the country can barely reach 300kms on a single charge. That being said, if Hyundai can offer the long-range variant that can comfortably cover 400+ kms on a single charge, many consumers in India may start leaning towards EVs.
