Honda City Hybrid: Everything You Need To Know
Honda City laid the foundation for what Honda cars stand for in India. Now, Honda City is in its fifth generation and still continues to be one of the best-selling and consistent performer for the Japanese automaker.
To further boost sales, Honda is also selling the 4th-generation City alongside the new model. Now, Honda has confirmed that the company will launch the hybrid version of the 5th generation Honda City in India.
This move is likely to boost the sales for Honda in India as it will attract more buyers to this interesting product.
Design
The Honda City Hybrid is already on sale in a few markets and these markets get sportier styling that is reminiscent of the sportier Honda City RS version.
This means the Honda City Hybrid will come with sportier front and rear bumpers with blacked-out details.
However, we believe, the India-specific model could come with revised styling with a hefty dose of chrome and a few additional standard features.
Features
Speaking about the features, expect the upcoming Honda City Hybrid to come loaded with all types of gizmos and features.
This could even mean, Honda could offer the upcoming Honda City Hybrid with Honda Sensing technology that comes with a list of active safety features such as auto high beam assist, emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and front collision warning system.
Powertrain
The Honda City Hybrid will feature a proper hybrid powertrain, complete with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a larger battery pack.
Unlike the engine in the standard Honda City, the 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Honda City Hybrid follows the Atkinson cycle for better fuel efficiency. This engine produces 98bhp of peak power and 127Nm of peak torque.
Though these figures are lower than the standard model, thanks to the hybrid powertrain, the electric motors powering the front wheels for electric drive produces 109bhp and 253Nm of torque.
Apart from that, the upcoming Honda City Hybrid can run in three modes - EV mode, internal combustion, and hybrid mode.
Price & Other Details
The Honda City Hybrid could be named 'Honda City e:HEV' when launched and could be priced around Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom. Apart from that, Honda has already confirmed the hybrid version of the Honda City will be unveiled on April 14, 2022.
Also, thanks to this hybrid powertrain and Atkinson-cycle engine, expect the fuel efficiency figure to be around 20km/l ballpark in the mixed driving cycle.
Thoughts About Honda City Hybrid
The launch of the hybrid version of the Honda City will be crucial for Honda in India, as it will not only add more customers to the brand but it will also help boost the image of the brand in the country.
