Ford India Resumes Production At Its Manufacturing Facility In Tamilnadu
Ford India has resumed production at its previously shut manufacturing facility in Tamilnadu. The production at Ford's facility has started in two shifts according to PTI.
However, out of 2,600 workers, only 100 to 150 workers have joined for work while the rest of the employees are on an "illegal strike".
The automaker has already warned its employees that it will take stringent action that may even lead to calling off the production of remaining orders, essentially putting an end to Ford's production plans in India.
Apart from that, Ford India has said that the severance package will be provided to those employees who do not indulge in strikes and cooperate with the company to complete the production of remaining orders as per schedule.
To deal with the situation, a meeting has been organised between the management and employees in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner of Labour on June 20.
Earlier, the US automaker had incurred losses close to USD 2 billion in the last ten years of its operation in India, and the company has decided to pull the plug on its manufacturing plant in India in order to stop further losses in the country.
Since the company has announced its plans to stop production in India, its employees have been in fear of losing their livelihood ever since.
Also, Ford's plan to shut down both its manufacturing plants in India came as a shocking statement to many as the US automaker has a strong fan base in the country.
The decision was despite some models of Ford were doing decent sales performance in the Indian automobile market. Apart from that, the company's sales figures were on an upward trajectory and were also doing good in the market with decent sales numbers in terms of both YoY and MoM basis.
Though Ford has discontinued its presence in the lower segment cars in India, the automaker is planning to introduce CBU models like the Ford Mustang, Ford Mustang Mach-E and a few more premium vehicles in India.
Coming back to Ford and its employees at its manufacturing plant in Chennai, Ford India is offering a severance package for 115 days of gross wages for each completed year.
Speaking about Ford in India, the US automaker had faced a lot of ups and downs in the Indian automobile market, despite its strong product portfolio, Ford sometimes forgets to update its better-selling model until it's too late.
Thoughts About Ford Resuming Production In India
As Ford resumes production at its manufacturing facility in Tamilnadu, we hope that the decision will bring back the job opportunities.
Apart from that, the decision will also ensure the trust of people in the brand if the US-based automaker decides to make a comeback in the future.
