Five Things To Know About The Kia Carens: Design, Powertrain & More
Kia is one of the fastest-growing automobile brands in India with successful product launches such as the Kia Seltos, Kia Sonet and Kia Carnival and the Kia Carens MPV is the 4th model in the South Korean company's product portfolio for India.
According to Kia, the Kia Carens MPV will be soon launched in the Indian automotive market. That being said, Kia will be entering one of the most demanding automobile sectors in India where consumers demand space, luxury, features, affordable pricing and many more.
Design
At a glance, the overall design of the Kia Carens looks very MPV-like but it is a very well executed design and doesn't look 'utilitarian' in anyways like most MPVs do. In fact, the Kia Carens looks very upmarket and stylish with its sleek split headlamps and Y-shaped DRLs.
Moving to the sides, the Kia Carens looks equally stylish and upmarket thanks to its diamond-cut alloy wheels and chrome elements. However, it is the rear that looks the most stylish with its full-width taillamps.
Features
Like other Kia vehicles, we expect the upcoming Kia Carens MPV to be packed to the brim with all the latest features the company can lay its hands on. Apart from that, the Kia Carens will feature a spacious and comfortable cabin. From the images, we can see that the interior of the Kia Carens features a multi-layered dashboard with three spoked leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The Kia Carens will feature Kia's UVO connected car tech, 10.25-inch infotainment unit with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, electric sunroof, ambient lighting and many more. Apart from that, the Kia Carens will also feature 6 USB-C ports, so all the occupants can charge their digital devices at the same time.
Powertrain
The Kia Carens is most likely to be powered by the same engine options as the smaller Kia Seltos. This means the upcoming 7-seater Kia MPV will get the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine and the punchy 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
The Kia Carens could also carry the same transmission options as the Kia Seltos, which means the Kia Carens may feature transmission options such as 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT.
Competition
When launched, the Kia Carens MPV will be positioned between the Kia Seltos and the Kia Carnival on the company's product line-up for India.
This means the Kia Carens will compete with vehicles such as Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700. Apart from these, the Kia Carens should also compete with the upcoming vehicles such as the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio and Toyota Rumion.
Price & Production
The company has high hopes for the Kia Carens as the company is planning to increase the annual capacity of its manufacturing plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. To do this, Kia is planning to do 3 shifts in its Anantapur facility to reach the maximum production capacity of 3 lakh units per year.
We expect Kia to price the Carens competitively in India with ex-showroom prices ranging between Rs 15 to Rs 20 lakh.
Thoughts About The Kia Carens
Kia has a very successful product lineup in India, thanks to the brand's long list of standard features and efficient powertrains. With the Kia Carens, the company has used the same formula and we expect Kia Carens to perform well in the demanding Indian automotive market.
