Five Things To Know About The Tata Tiago CNG: Design, Powertrain & More
Tata Motors has high expectation for the CNG variant of the Tata Tiago in India as the demand for CNG cars are on the rise and with the launch of the CNG variant of the Tata Tiago the running costs of the hatchback will become even more affordable than ever before.
Design
In terms of the design, the CNG version of the Tata Tiago looks identical to its petrol-powered counterpart. However, the CNG variants of the Tata Tiago sport an 'i CNG' badging to distinguish themselves from the standard petrol-powered variants.
Apart from that, the latest update adds a new colour exclusive to the top-end XZ+ trim level. This new colour option is called Midnight Plum. Along with these additions, the XZ+ trim level of the Tata Tiago CNG also gets LED DRLs, Projector Headlamps, and new Chrome elements on the front, sides and rear.
On the inside, the CNG version of the Tata Tiago looks identical to its petrol-powered counterparts albeit an additional switch on the dashboard to switch to CNG fuel. Apart from that, the recent update brings a new dual-tone interior with a black and beige finish on the top-end XZ+ trim for an upmarket look.
Features & Safety
In terms of features, the CNG variant of the Tata Tiago comes equipped with an identical set of features as the standard variant of the Tata Tiago with features such as Projector headlamps, LED DRLs, Rear wash wiper with defogger, 7-inch Harman infotainment system with 8-speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and many more.
The newly launched CNG version of the Tata Tiago is also one of the safest cars in India as the conventional variant of the Tata Tiago has scored a respectable 4-star safety rating for adult protection by Global-NCAP.
Apart from that, the CNG variant of the Tata Tiago comes equipped with safety features such as ABS with EBD, dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, cornering stability control, speed-sensitive auto door lock and many more.
Powertrain
The Tata Tiago uses the same tried-and-tested 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine as its petrol-powered counterparts, however, engineers at Tata Motors have made a few changes to the powertrain to run on CNG.
While this engine produces 84.82bhp and 113Nm of torque in standard form, with the CNG fuel, this engine produces slightly lower power and torque outputs at 73bhp and 95Nm of torque.
Unlike the petrol-powered versions of the Tata Tiago, the CNG versions of the Tata Tiago comes with the 5-speed manual transmission as standard.
Apart from that, Tata Motors has slightly re-tuned the suspension of CNG variants of the Tata Tiago to cope with the added weight of the factory-fitted CNG kit.
Competition
The CNG variant of the Tata Tiago directly competes with a few other CNG powered hatchbacks such as the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Hyundai Santro.
Price
The CNG version of the Tata Tiago is available in four trim levels and prices for the CNG version of the Tiago range starts at Rs 6.09 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base 'XE' variant and goes all the way up to Rs 7.52 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-spec 'XZ+' trim level. Whereas the XM and XT trim levels are priced at Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 6.69 lakh, respectively.

Tata Motors recently overtook Hyundai to become the second-largest seller of passenger vehicles in India, the launch of CNG variants of both Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor will be vital to boost the company's overall sales and keep up the same momentum.
