Ferrari will be limiting the number of Purosangue SUVs it will make every year in order to ensure its exclusivity. The prancing horse marque has stated that the yearly average contribution of the Purosangue SUV to the yearly shipments from Maranello will remain under 20 per cent.

Other brands like Lamborghini with the Urus and Aston Martin with the DBX have given up their sports car identity with their sojourn into the SUV world. However, Ferrari claims that the new Purosangue (Italian for thoroughbred) will be a true sports car like its siblings that bear the famous prancing horse badge. Speaking to reporters at the Ferrari' recent Capital Markets Day, the carmaker's CEO Benedetto Vigna said that he had driven the new Purosangue in the hills around Maranello and that the SUV drove like a true sports car.

Vigna also confirmed that the new SUV will be powered by Ferrari's iconic V12 engine stating that the company had tested several engine options for the upcoming Purosangue. Vigna claims that after testing several engine options it was clear to Ferrari that the V12 was the correct engine to bring the Purosangue to the market.

Ferrari released a video about the upcoming Purosangue's powerplant stating, "Born without compromise, our new thoroughbred's bloodline is unmistakably Ferrari at heart. It will be powered by a V12 engine. The V12 has always been an intrinsic part of Ferrari DNA. It is a celebration of our heritage, and a symbol of our relentless quest for new heights of performance and pure driving emotion."

Both architectures will support some form of electrification and are able to accommodate V12, V8 and V6 engines with transaxle dual-clutch gearboxes. Both of these architectures will support both rear and four-wheel drive along with 2, 2+2, and 4-seat cabins using variable wheelbase lengths.
