Citroen e-C3 Launch Sooner Than Expected
It is very well known that the French automaker, Citroen is gearing up to launch the all-electric e-C3 hatchback in India.
Now, Mr Carlos Tavares, the global CEO of Stellantis Group, has confirmed that the all-electric Citroen e-C3 hatchback will be launched by early next year.
However, the exact launch date of the upcoming Citroen e-C3 electric hatchback is yet to be revealed by the French car manufacturer. However, the upcoming Citroen e-C3 electric hatchback is more likely to be launched soon after the likely customary unveil at the Auto Expo 2023.
Diving into details, the Citroen e-C3 electric hatchback will be the first all-electric product from the French car maker for the Indian automobile market. Furthermore, the company is quick to mention that no other car company has launched the EV iteration of a conventionally-powered car within a such short span of time.
Speaking about the Citroen e-C3, Mr Taveres said that the upcoming electric hatchback comes equipped with a decent-sized (for a hatchback of this size) 30.2kWh battery pack, and this battery pack at present is said to be LFP cells sourced from a Chinese firm by the name 'Svolt'.
He also added that the upcoming Citroen e-C3 electric vehicle will also come equipped with a 3.3kW onboard AC charger. However, Mr Taveres is quick to point out that the upcoming Citroen e-C3 electric hatchback will be compatible with the 'CCS2' type fast charger.
Also, the upcoming Citroen e-C3 electric hatchback is powered by an 84.5bhp (63kW) electric motor with 143Nm of peak torque. In comparison, its nearest competitor, the Tata Tiago EV is powered by a slightly less powerful 74bhp electric motor with 114Nm of peak torque.
Coming to the pricing, Citroen has been working to optimise the cost of the e-C3 electric hatchback by sharing as many parts with the petrol-only Citroen C3 hatchback. This means, most of the exterior, interior and mechanicals of the Citroen e-C3 electric hatchback will be almost identical to its petrol-powered counterpart.
In a bid to improve localisation and further reduce the production cost, Mr Tavares said that he is looking forward to buying batteries from an Indian supplier. Though he has not yet found a supplier, he is confident that the Indian-made batteries will be equipped in the Citroen e-C3 electric hatchback in the next few years.

If Citroen is able to aggressively price the e-C3 electric hatchback in India, success is bound to follow as we have seen in the case of the Tata Tiago EV. Furthermore, the Citroen e-C3 could give tough competition to the recently launched Tata Tiago EV in India.
