2022 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Launched In India: Prices Start From Rs 2.50 Crore
Mercedes-Benz has launched the 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class in India and prices for this uber-luxurious limousine starts from Rs 2.50 crore (ex-showroom, India). Moreover, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S580 will be produced in India.
This is the flagship and the most luxurious iteration of the 7th-Gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Moreover, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is available with two engine options, but before we divide into the specifications of the newly launched 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, let's take a look at what makes this luxury barge special.
From a distance, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class looks very similar to the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The different design details though are apparent as one draws closer.
However, it is not a glorified Mercedes-Benz S-Class, as it is clearly evident that the engineers and the designers at Stuttgart have clearly spent a lot of time developing and refining the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
Starting with the design, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has more heft and bling to its overall exterior design. At the front end, the 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class gets a bold grille with vertical slats and thick chrome surrounds. The bottom half of the bumper features a unique chrome element that joins the air vents on both sides of the bumper.
Moving to the side profile, this is where the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class really shows its extra worth. Measuring in at 5,469mm in length, the 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is 180mm longer than the longest Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Moreover, the height of the luxury sedan has also been raised to 1,510mm.
All of these changes contribute massively to differentiate the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class from the standard model. The dual-tone paint scheme further enhances the visual appeal. In addition to these, the Maybach insignia on the C-Pillar speaks a thousand words.
At the rear, the dual-tone paint scheme really helps the Maybach version stand out from the crowd and a thick chrome strip connects the two taillamps. Further, the exhaust tips sport thick chrome surrounds for that additional premium feel.
However, the special dual-tone paint scheme is exclusive to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680.
Under the skin, the new Mercedes-Maybach is fitted with a state-of-the-art E-Active Body Control 48-Volt active roll stabilisation system. This system uses cameras to scan the road ahead for imperfections and adjusts the suspension accordingly to glide over the potholes or bumps.
Another interesting feature is the presence of rear-wheel steering. This system allows the rear wheels to turn by up to 4.5 degrees, thereby shortening the turning circle by almost 2 metres.
On the inside, though the design reminds you of the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the similarities end there. All the materials are a grade above. Even the leather is Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather.
Unlike the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is a strict 4-seater luxury sedan. The rear seats are electrically operated and can recline up to 43.5 degrees and these seats are also equipped with pillow headrests, memory function, heating, ventilation and massage (including calf massage) functions.
Moreover, the user can control various functions using a 7-inch Android tablet and can choose to watch videos on the two 11.6-inch touchscreen displays mounted at the back of the front seats.
Apart from this, the interior is constantly monitored by onboard computers using three laser cameras and they perform various functions like lighting up the interior if the passenger reaches the grab handle, closing the door with just a wave of the hand, extending the seat belt feeder when you reach out for the seat belts, adjust the headrests according to the user's height, etc.
At the front, the massive 12.8-inch OLED portrait-style touchscreen incorporates various functions including the 4-zone climate control system. Despite the large size of the screen, it does not dominate the dashboard design thanks to various other design and style elements on the dashboard.
In addition to that, the Mercedes-Maybach comes with a 12.3-inch 3D effect instrument cluster with a Maybach exclusive Rose Gold theme dials, heated armrests (including the armrests on the door), 64-colour ambient lighting and much more.
Apart from that, the Mercedes-Maybach offers fingerprint login other than voice-activated and pin login methods.
There are many other features that are also seen on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This includes adaptive Digital LED headlights, retractable door handles, fingerprint reader, power-adjustable multi contour front seats with memory, powered rear side window sunblinds, thick pile carpets, Qi wireless chargers front and rear, heating, cooling and massage functions, open-pore walnut wood trim with aluminium inlay strips, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera system, and powered hands-free boot lid.
A feature also worth mentioning is the 4D surround sound system by Burmester. This system uses 30 speakers and 8 resonators inside the seats. Also, this system also doubles up as an Active Noise Cancellation system.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class gets the most advanced suite of safety features in existence. This includes rear frontal airbags, integrated rear seat cushion airbags, rear side airbags, frontal airbags and belt bags. There are a total of 13 airbags in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class also comes with a Pre-Safe Impulse Side, which raises the car up to better protect occupants in a side-impact collision.
In addition to all these safety features, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class also comes with Level-2 Autonomous driving function and offers features such as 'Evasive Steering Assist' and Active Brake Assist with 'Cross Traffic Function' - A first time in India.
Powerplant options under the bonnet include a 4.0-litre V8 with 496bhp of maximum power and 700Nm of peak torque. This engine is further boosted by a 48-volt EQ-boost mild-hybrid system that delivers an additional 19.7bhp of power and 200Nm of torque when required.
This engine is paired with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and distributes power to all four wheels via a 4-Matic all-wheel drive system. This complex drivetrain enables this luxury barge to hit 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds.
On the other hand, the 6.0-litre turbocharged V12 unit in the S680 variant produces 612bhp of peak power and 900Nm of peak torque. This model can reach 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Both models have been electronically limited to reach a topspeed of just 250km/h.
Finally, coming to the price of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680, the V12-powered luxury limousine is priced at Rs 3.2 Crore (ex-showroom, India). However, it is worth mentioning that the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680 is sold out till 2023.
Thoughts About The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is at least a couple of notches above the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class and it does not feel the same despite sharing the platform. It is luxury and opulence taken to the next level and one will find the luxury levels hard to resist. You would want to own one, but can you afford one?
