2022 Kia Seltos Revealed & It's Coming To India Very Soon
2022 Kia Seltos has been revealed digitally ahead of its global debut at the Busan Motor Show. We expect the facelifted version of the SUV to soon make its way to the Indian shores.
Speaking about Kia Seltos, the C-segment SUV has been a very successful model in India and the success of the SUV laid the foundation for the South Korean automaker in the country. As Kia has revealed the facelifted version of the Kia Seltos SUV, it is just a matter of time before the automaker launches the updated iteration of the Seltos SUV.
The facelifted version of the Kia Seltos SUV will keep the model fresh and attract more customers to its showrooms in the country.
Recently, a Kia Seltos was spotted testing wearing heavy camouflage and from the spied images, the silhouette of the camouflaged Kia Seltos SUV remains largely similar to the outgoing iteration of the SUV.
Coming to the changes on the facelifted version of the Kia Seltos SUV from the digitally revealed images, the SUV now sports a pair of new headlamps and a larger front grille that is a bit more imposing to look at. Also, Kia has updated the design of the DRLs.
As mentioned earlier, the silhouette remains almost identical and the only visible change on the sides of the 2022 Kia Seltos is the new 18-inch alloy wheels. These large alloy wheels neatly fill the wheel arches and also accentuate the sportiness of the SUV.
At the rear, the new Kia Selto features a larger LED tail lamp that extends a bit more to the bottom and keeping up with the trend, both taillamps are now connected together by a full-width LED light bar with the 'Kia' logo positioned in the middle of the light bar.
The rear also features sliver skid plates, that aid the overall looks of the SUV. Moreover, the exhaust tips on the facelifted version of the Seltos seem to be neatly tucked under the rear bumper.
However, it is on the inside of the new model lot of changes have taken place. The update makes the interior look a lot more premium with clever colour combinations and horizontal lines that accentuate the width of the cabin.
The most noticeable change in the interior of the 2022 Kia Seltos is the presence of two 10.25-inch screens - One for the instrument console and the other for the infotainment unit. Moreover, the new screens seem shorter and this makes the whole unit look a lot wider than it actually is. This design theme is carried to the central AC vents as well.
The next most noticeable change is the lack of gear selector lever on the central console. This is because the unit seems to have been replaced by a rotary-style gear selector knob.
Also, the updated 2022 Kia Seltos SUV has been rumoured to come with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) since this feature is becoming more of a norm in the country.
If true, the updated Kia Seltos SUV will come with features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), active lane assistance, blind-spot monitoring system, drowsiness alert, auto emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert and a few more.
Moreover, there are reports about Kia replacing the 1.5-litre diesel powertrain with a more modern petrol-hybrid unit, this is highly unlikely as the diesel powertrain is a favourite among Indian SUV buyers and the unit continues to be offered in the Hyundai Creta.
Also, Kia may even introduce a CNG option with the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. This is more likely as this engine with the CNG mod has already been spotted testing in the Kia Carens MUV in India.
At present, the Kia Seltos SUV is offered with three engine options. The base engine is a 1.5-litre naturally-spirated petrol engine with 113bhp of peak power and 144Nm of peak torque, whereas the more powerful 1.4-litre turbocharged unit puts out 138bhp of peak power and 242Nm of peak torque.
The last engine option is the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit with 113bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque.
Coming to the transmission options, the Kia Seltos comes with five gearbox options. However, not all gearbox options are available with all three engine options. The base 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine can be specified to either a 6-speed intelligent manual transmission(iMT) or a 6-speed manual transmission or even a CVT.
Whereas the more popular diesel powertrain also comes with three gearbox options. However, instead of the CVT automatic gearbox, the diesel unit sports a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. On the other hand, the turbocharged petrol unit can be specified with just two gearbox options - a 7-speed DCT gearbox or a 6-speed manual transmission.
Though launched way back in 2019, the Kia Seltos is among the best-equipped SUVs in the Indian automobile market with features such as 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, VSM, HAC, BOSE premium 8 speaker system, heads-up display, connected car tech, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, large touchscreen infotainment unit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Blind view Monitor, front parking sensors and many more.
Thoughts About 2022 Kia Seltos
The updated iteration of the Kia Seltos is likely to make the segment a lot more interesting. Also, the facelifted version of the SUV is expected to improve the sales of the South Korean automaker in India.
