2022 Kia Seltos Debuts - Here’s Everything We Know So Far
Kia has finally revealed the much-awaited facelifted version of the Seltos SUV. Moreover, the South Korean automaker has revealed both the exterior and the interior of the upcoming facelifted version of the SUV.
Exterior Design
The facelifted version of the Kia Seltos SUV now looks a lot more premium and mature than the outgoing model. Starting at the front, the 2022 Kia Seltos SUV now sports a pair of new updated LED headlamps, a larger and squarish front grille, a redesigned front bumper, new skid plates and a new set of LED fog lamps.
At the opposite end, the new Kia Seltos features a pair of larger LED tail lamps that extends a bit more to the bottom. To make the SUV look a bit more substantial, Kia has also added a full-width LED light bar that connects the new LED taillamps. The light bar also sports the new Kia logo in the middle.
Moreover, the exhaust tips on the facelifted version of the Seltos seem to be neatly tucked under the rear bumper.
Since this is a facelift, the silhouette of the 2022 Kia Seltos remains almost identical to the outgoing version of the SUV, and the only visible change on the sides are the new 18-inch alloy wheels that neatly fill the wheel arches to accentuate the sportiness of the SUV.
Interior Design & Features
On the inside of the new 2022 Kia Seltos, designers have worked their magic with numerous clever design changes to make the cabin look a lot more upmarket. This new update makes the overall interior look far more premium than the outgoing model.
The most noticeable change on the interior of the 2022 Kia Seltos is the presence of two 10.25-inch screens - One for the instrument console and the other for the new touchscreen infotainment unit. Also, the new screens seem to be shorter in height and this makes the whole unit look a lot wider than it actually is.
The following most noticeable change is the lack of a gear selector lever on the central console. This is because the unit seems to have been replaced by a rotary-style gear selector knob, making the cabin a lot more sophisticated to look at.
Safety & ADAS
Also, the updated 2022 Kia Seltos SUV will come with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and feature active safety systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), active lane assistance, blind-spot monitoring system, drowsiness alert, auto emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert and a few more.
At present, the outgoing model of the Kia Seltos SUV comes with safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS, electronic stability control (ESC), VSM, HAC, BOSE premium 8 speaker system, heads-up display, wireless charging, large touchscreen infotainment unit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, connected car tech, 360-degree camera, Blind Spot Monitoring system, front parking sensors and many more.
Engine
The outgoing model of the Kia Seltos is powered by three engine options. The base engine is a 1.5-litre naturally-spirated petrol engine with 113bhp of peak power and 144Nm of peak torque, whereas the more powerful 1.4-litre turbocharged unit puts out 138bhp of peak power and 242Nm of peak torque. The last engine option is the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit with 113bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque.
Keeping up with the times, Kia may discontinue the 1.5-litre diesel engine in favour of a petrol-hybrid unit. However, this is highly unlikely as the diesel powertrain is popular among Indian SUV buyers.
A more likely and viable option is that the South Korean automaker may introduce a CNG option with the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. This is more likely as this engine with the CNG mod has already been spotted testing in the Kia Carens MUV in the country.
Gearbox
The outgoing model of the Kia Seltos SUV is offered with not one or two transmission options, but with five transmission options. However, not all gearbox options can be specified with all three engine options.
While the base 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine comes with three transmission options - a 6-speed intelligent manual transmission(iMT), a 6-speed manual transmission, and a CVT gearbox.
The more popular diesel powertrain also comes with three gearbox options. However, instead of the CVT automatic gearbox, the diesel unit sports a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. On the other hand, the turbocharged petrol unit can be specified with just two gearbox options - a 7-speed DCT gearbox or a 6-speed manual transmission.
Thoughts About The Kia Seltos Facelift
The Kia Seltos SUV has been a very successful model in India and the success of the SUV laid the foundation for the South Korean automaker in the country. The upcoming facelifted version of the Kia Seltos SUV will keep the model fresh and attract more customers to its showrooms in the country.
As Kia has revealed the facelifted version of the Seltos SUV, it is just a matter of time before the automaker launches the facelifted version in the country.
