Prices for the Signature variant of the newly launched fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson SUV goes up to Rs 34.54 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Ahead of its launch in India, the fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson SUV underwent a crash test at the Euro-NCAP, where the SUV aced the test and was awarded a 5-Star rating for Adult Occupant Protection.
Diving a little deeper into the Euro NCAP safety test ratings, it is found that the new Hyundai Tucson's passenger compartment remained stable even after conducting the offset crash test for which the premium mid-size SUV scored 12.4 points out of the maximum 16 points.
As for pedestrian safety, the new Hyundai Tucson also scored a decent 36.1 points out of 54 points in the pedestrian protection safety test at the Euro-NCAP. It is worth mentioning that the variant tested by Euro-NCAP was the GLS trim equipped with a 1.6-litre GDI turbocharged petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology.
With a 5-Star rating from Euro-NCAP, the fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson SUV has gained a decent reputation among the audience and successfully converted this reputation into decent sales figures in many countries despite its main rivals also being highly rated by automotive journalists.
In India, things are not very different and the fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson SUV has to fend-off rivals such as the Citroen C5 Aircross, Jeep Compass and Volkswagen Tiguan.
It is also worth mentioning that the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson comes packed with features and it even comes with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes features such as forward collision avoidance assistance, safe ext warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot assistance, lane following assistance, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, high-beam assistance and a few more.
0-Star Safety Rating - Latin-NCAP
However, Hyundai recently tested its Tucson SUV at the Latin-NCAP, and the SUV scored a 0-Star safety rating for the base variant equipped with 2 airbags.
In terms of Adult Occupant Protection rating, the Hyundai Tucson dual airbag variant scored just 20.09 points out of the maximum 40 points. Given the crash performance, the Latin-NCAP commented that the Hyundai Tucson SUV offered good protection to the driver's and passenger's head and neck. However, the knees of both driver and passenger only offered marginal protection.
In addition to that, both the footwell and bodyshell were rated stable by the Latin-NCAP. Moreover, it is also worth mentioning that the Side Pole Impact test was not performed as the car does not offer side head protection as standard.
Powertrain
In India, the Hyundai Tucson is offered in two powertrain options. The petrol powertrain uses a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine with 153.81bhp of peak power and 192Nm of peak torque. In addition to that, this powertrain comes mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
On the other hand, the diesel version uses a 2.0-litre, turbocharged unit with 183.7bhp of peak power and 416Nm of peak torque. Also, this engine comes mated to a more advanced 8-speed automatic gearbox to make better use of the additional power and torque.
Thoughts About The Upcoming New 2022 Hyundai Tucson 0-Star Safety Rating
Globally, the Hyundai Tucson is a very successful model after having sold more than 7 lakh units across the world. As such, Hyundai should have made sure all the variants sold around the globe adhere to the highest feasible safety standards.
